Widow’s Bay Episode 9, “Emergency Shelter,” finally brings the storm to the island, which means everyone gets pushed indoors with dusty lighting, uynsettling histories, and the dreadful sense that the town’s emergency plans were probably written by the same people (cough, Tom) who thought the curse was hooey. It is a very Widow’s Bay setup: civic procedure on top, ancient rot underneath, and a room full of people trying to act normal while the weather gets personal.

Who died in Widow’s Bay Episode 9?
The major death in Episode 9 is Todd O’Connor, aka The Shaman, played by Chris Fleming.
Todd dies as the tornado/cyclone advances on the island at the center of the storm. He was introduced in Episode 5, “What to Expect on Your Trip,” as Patricia’s old classmate and the island’s resident mushroom mystic, a man whose whole deal sat somewhere between local crank, drug guy, and low-budget oracle. He was the one who identified the island’s black mushrooms as “Truesight,” which made him one of the season’s stranger little lore machines.
Honestly, it all makes his Episode 9 death funnier and meaner than some random storm casualty. Which, effectively, is what he was. Todd knew the island’s weird vocabulary. He understood more than most residents, or at least acted like he did with enormous confidence. Then the storm arrives, the island stops being coy, and Todd gets taken out anyway.
His death also keeps the pressure on after Episode 8’s Boogeyman chaos. Bechir survived that attack, the EMTs did not, and Patricia entered “Emergency Shelter” already dealing with a town where the curse had become harder to explain away. Todd’s death gives Episode 9 its clearest body-count entry and reminds everyone that knowing the lore does not make anyone safe.
