Plum is averaging 25.5 points per game this season and remains firmly in the MVP conversation.
Plus, the Sparks have no shortage of offensive talent. Nneka Ogwumike is coming off a 20-point, 17-rebound double-double, while Dearica Hamby continues to provide scoring support alongside Plum. The issue for Los Angeles all season has been defense, as the Sparks are allowing a league-worst 91.1 points per game.
The good news? Seattle hasn’t exactly been built to take advantage of that weakness. The Storm have lost six straight and continue to own one of the least productive offenses in the league. They’re tied for last in scoring at 76.2 points per game and rank last in field goal percentage. Dominique Malonga’s return from concussion protocol has been one of the few positives lately, and her 19-point performance against Las Vegas was encouraging. But expecting one player to suddenly fix the league’s worst offense feels like a lot. Seattle is also still waiting for Ezi Magbegor to return from a foot injury, and her absence continues to be felt defensively. Without her, the Storm have struggled to consistently protect the paint or generate enough offense to compensate.
That’s what makes this matchup tricky for Seattle. Los Angeles has plenty of flaws, but scoring isn’t one of them. And while the Sparks’ defense remains vulnerable, the Storm simply haven’t shown an ability to capitalize on favorable matchups offensively.
