Karl-Anthony Towns has been on the heater of a lifetime in these NBA Playoffs. Sure, he’s not scoring like a true alpha in the 30+ PPG range, but his contributions to this run to the Finals deserve heaps of praise, especially in light of his career narrative. Here’s a stat for the analytics nerds — in this postseason alone, the big man has already accumulated more VORP than across his entire prior career playoff sample, which was roughly three times as large in terms of minutes played.
Towns has genuinely been the Knicks’ best player throughout most of the playoffs. He’s producing 16.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game on a shooting split of 56.0% from the field and 46.3% from deep. Factor in his FT% of 90.4% and you get a 69.3% TS%, which is even better than the league’s elite scorers tend to post. Beyond that, Towns is averaging 2.6 combined stocks per game and has largely been excellent defensively, quite the turnaround in year 11 of his NBA career. Whether it’s knocking down shots, grabbing boards or flashing his passing chops, he’s been excellent.
Tonight, DraftKings Sportsbook lists Towns’ prop bet lines at O/U 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 three pointers. His combined PTS + REB + AST line comes in at 32.5.
Towns played two excellent games on the road to begin this NBA Finals series. He notched 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in the first outing, then scored 21 points with 13 boards and four dimes in the second. However, Game 3 at Madison Square Garden was less impressive, with the big man recording 11 points with eight rebounds and only one helper, though he had five stocks. Against the Spurs this series, he’s now averaging 16.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists on a 51.4% FG% and a 33.3% 3P%.
Tonight, we’re doing something a little different with Towns’ prop bet market. Instead of a usual O/U pick, we’re aiming for the star center to lead this game in rebounding at +133 odds. Towns finished second in Game 1 with 12 rebounds, tied with Victor Wembanyama as both trailed Josh Hart’s big night on the glass. In Game 2, Towns paced all players with 13 rebounds, then he finished tied for second in Game 3 as well. Clearly, he remains one of the best big men in the NBA at crashing the glass and has what it takes to compete in the paint in this series. Even against Wembanyama’s length, Towns is far stronger and has plenty of size of his own to fight for superiority down low.
After bringing in 33 boards over the first three games, New York’s star does lead the series in total rebounding. That makes him a great pick to lead the market in the stat again tonight at plus odds.
