Chase Burns, Cincinnati Reds at San Diego Padres ($10,500) — Burns averages 98.1 mph on the fastball and is sporting a 2.05 ERA through 70.1 innings He has been lucky with a .228 BABIP and 93.8% strand rate, so the FIP is much higher at 3.36. That said, the K-BB% is 22% and he’s put up at least 24 FPTS in each of the last four starts with a high of 31.7 FPTS. San Diego is seventh in strikeouts, 23rd in ISO and dead-last in both wOBA and wRC+.

Dustin May, St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets ($6,300) — May got pummeled in his first two starts of the season, posting negative FPTS in both. Since then, the season has been solid, putting up double-digit FPTS seven times with four games over 20 and a high of 30 FPTS. He’s gone at least five innings in 10 straight starts, with seven of those at six innings and a high of seven innings. The 3.36 FIP is much lower than the 4.59 ERA and he’s allowed only five home runs in 66.2 innings. New York is 26th in ISO, 29th in wOBA and 28th in wRC+.

CJ Abrams, Washington Nationals at San Francisco Giants ($5,900) — Abrams has 14 home runs, 41 runs, 49 RBI and nine stolen bases through 279 innings. The walk rate is 10.4%, the strikeout rate is 20.1% and the ISO is .248. The average exit velocity is 90 mph with an average launch angle of 16.8 degrees and a barrel rate of 10.8%. The sprint speed of 28.4 ft/sec is in the 82nd percentile. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 171 while the ISO is a robust .287. Adrian Houser has a 6.2 FIP and 5.2% K-BB% against lefties. Seven of the 10 home runs allowed have come off the bat of a lefty.

Jose Fermin, St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets ($2,700) — Fermin is a light-hitting infielder with an 85.6 mph average exit velocity, 1.4% barrel rate and 68 mph bat speed. Yuck. That said, he does have two home runs, eight runs, 10 RBI and two stolen bases in 94 plate appearances. Over the last four games, he’s put up five, 18, five and 14 FPTS, as he racked up four hits and two stolen bases. He’s cheap.
OUTFIELD

James Wood, Washington Nationals at San Francisco Giants ($6,400) — Yup, we’re stacking against Houser and susceptible Giants bullpen. Wood has a a 29.9% strikeout rate, but the walk rate is 17.9% and the ISO is .265. He has 17 home runs, 57 runs, 40 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 308 plate appearances. The average exit velocity is a whopping 96 mph with a 25.5% barrel rate. The bat speed is 76.3 mph. Wood has gone for over 20 FPTS 15 times this season with a high of 31 FPTS.

Sterlin Thompson, Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs ($2,700) — Thompson has only been up for 18 games and 52 plate appearances. He’s racked up four runs and six RBI over that span. The slash is .222/.327/.267 with an .044 ISO. The walk rate is 9.6% while the strikeout rate is 19.2%. The average exit velocity is only 87.6 mph with a 6.9 degree launch angle and 0% barrel rate. I’m talking myself out of this recommendation. That said, he’s cheap, will be batting in Coors Field and the bat speed is 75.5 mph. He will also be facing Colin Rea, who is allowing an average exit velocity of 91.3 mph and a barrel rate of 12.4%. Against left-handed batters, the K-BB% is only 10% while the FIP is 4.09.
