Two of the most injury-plagued rosters in the league meet tonight in what should be a grind. The Chicago Sky host the Connecticut Sun on Friday, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Chicago comes in as a 6.5-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, and the total sits at 164.5.
Let’s get into it!
Sky vs. Sun Preview
The Sky have dropped five straight games, but context matters here. Chicago lost Rickea Jackson to a torn ACL on May 17 and has spent the last few weeks trying to patch together an offense without its leading scorer. The results haven’t been pretty, as the Sky are averaging just 78.0 points per game over their last three contests. Still, there are reasons to believe this team is better than its recent record suggests.
Skylar Diggins has continued to carry the offense, averaging 19.5 points per game over her last three outings, while Kamilla Cardoso remains the foundation of everything Chicago does defensively. Between her rim protection and rebounding, the Sky still have an identity even when the offense goes cold.
Connecticut, on the other hand, is dealing with plenty of issues of its own. The Sun sit at 2-9 and own the worst net rating in the league at minus-16.0. They’ve already used nine different starting lineups through 11 games and continue to search for combinations that work. The offense has been the biggest problem, averaging a league-low 75.5 points per game while allowing the third-most points in the WNBA.
There are a few encouraging signs. Leila Lacan recently made her season debut after arriving from overseas, and Brittney Griner’s return has helped stabilize things when available. But at some point, the results are what they are. Connecticut has struggled to score all season, and lineup instability continues to make things difficult.
Sky vs. Sun Pick
Neither team is playing great basketball right now, which is exactly why this feels like a grind. The difference is that Chicago still has a defensive foundation to fall back on, while Connecticut is trying to solve problems on both ends of the floor.
Best Bet: Chicago Sky -6.5 (-115)
