Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles prediction, pick for MLB on Wednesday 6/03/26

Boston’s home season has become its own small emergency, and Baltimore arrives with answers already in hand. The Orioles enter Wednesday at 29-32 after Tuesday’s 4-2 victory at Fenway, their eighth win in 11 games. Coby Mayo and Pete Alonso homered in consecutive early innings, before Rico Garcia closed the game cleanly. The Red Sox fell to 25-34, including 9-20 at home, their worst Fenway start in 94 years. They have lost 12 of their last 16 home games. Baltimore has supplied power, late rallies, and leverage relief during its climb back toward .500. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Red Sox vs. Orioles prediction, preview

Payton Tolle supplies Boston’s strongest argument, and the rookie left-hander has earned every bit of market respect. He owns a 2.61 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts through 41.1 innings. His 2.21 xERA, .237 xwOBA, 28.6% strikeout rate, and 6.8% walk rate validate those results. Baltimore has managed a .665 OPS against left-handers, so Tolle presents a severe challenge. Chris Bassitt leaves the door open across nine innings. The veteran owns a 5.06 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 64 hits allowed, and 36 strikeouts through 53.1 innings. Boston owns the starting-pitcher advantage. Bassitt’s traffic profile keeps separation far from guaranteed.

Coby Mayo is Baltimore’s primary damage bat tonight because this left-handed matchup has become his preferred violence. He homered Tuesday and is 8-for-18 with three homers and six RBI in his last 10 lefty matchups. Pete Alonso followed Mayo’s shot with his 12th homer and 38th RBI of the season. His 55.7% hard-hit rate gives Baltimore a veteran answer when Tolle misses over the plate. Samuel Basallo supplies another dangerous swing, slashing .282/.343/.509 with nine homers and a 92.3 mph average exit velocity. His 48.3% hard-hit rate and 12.0% barrel rate erase comfortable left-on-left assumptions. Gunnar Henderson has also hit .281/.324/.531 with four homers and 10 RBI across his last 15 games.

Boston can answer through Willson Contreras and Jarren Duran, the two bats keeping this offense dangerous. Contreras leads the club with 11 home runs, alongside a .381 OBP, .497 slugging percentage, and .878 OPS. Duran owns 10 homers, 30 runs, and 10 stolen bases, then opened Tuesday with a triple. Ceddanne Rafaela added two hits, and Boston still produced only two runs on five hits. That failure fits the larger Fenway record. Against right-handers at home, Boston is batting .228/.306/.342 with a .649 OPS. Bassitt can permit baserunners and survive when the Red Sox keep wasting their most promising traffic.

Orioles vs. Red Sox pick, best bet

Nine innings make Baltimore more appealing than a shortened wager built only around Tolle’s excellence. Boston lost Garrett Whitlock to a knee injury, removing its leading setup arm before Aroldis Chapman. Baltimore reached the ninth Tuesday and turned to Garcia, who struck out two while earning his fourth save. Garcia owns a 0.68 ERA, 0.61 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts across 26.1 innings. Fenway projects clear and mild, with temperatures in the mid-70s around first pitch. The conditions offer Boston no environmental correction for its home scoring problem. A close game after the starters leave belongs in Baltimore’s preferred territory.

The moneyline gives Baltimore its proper full-game value at +129. Tolle can control early traffic, although Mayo, Alonso, Basallo, and Henderson supply enough concentrated damage to answer him. Bassitt only has to hold Boston near its established Fenway scoring level. The Orioles then carry the stronger finishing arm and sharper recent identity into the final innings. Boston’s starter explains the number; Baltimore’s power cluster and bullpen justify taking it. Best bet: Baltimore Orioles moneyline +129, playable to +115.

Final score projection: Orioles 5, Red Sox 3.

Best bet: Orioles (+130) at Red Sox
