NFL trade news: Who did the Rams give up to get Myles Garrett?

The Rams and the Browns shocked the sports world Monday with a blockbuster trade that has Myles Garrett headed to the Rams. Below, I dive into the details of this trade.

Myles Garrett trade details

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Garrett is being traded to the Rams in exchange for Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick.

Garrett is viewed as the best defender in the NFL by most and he is coming off his best season to date. In 2025, Garrett was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in the last three years, as the former No. 1 overall pick set the NFL single-season sack record with 23. Garrett also led the NFL with 33 tackles for a loss. The Rams finished just 15th in yards per play allowed and 11th in sacks last season, but adding Garrett instantly makes them one of the top defenses in the league and the clear favorite to win the Super Bowl. Following the Garrett trade, the Rams carry the best odds to win the Super Bowl on DraftKings Sportsbook at +600.

While trading Garrett is a questionable move to say the least, the Browns are getting a great young linebacker in Verse in return. The 25-year-old was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 and in 2025, Verse finished with 7.5 sacks, 35 solo tackles and 11 tackles for a loss, resulting in his second Pro Bowl selection.

In addition to Verse, Cleveland will be getting a strong package of picks in the deal. The Browns will be receiving a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick from the Rams.
