Five days have rearranged the terms of this AL Central rematch. The White Sox return to Target Field at 32-27, one game behind Cleveland, after taking three of four from Minnesota and sweeping Detroit to close May at 18-10. Their five-game winning streak has carried late-inning proof: Colson Montgomery erased Sunday’s deficit with his 15th home run, then Tristan Peters drove home the winning run in a 2-1 victory. Minnesota is 27-33, third in the division, after losing five straight and being outscored 46-21 during that slide. Both clubs have also lost an offensive fulcrum. Chicago is without Munetaka Murakami, whose 20 home runs and .938 OPS drove its power surge. Minnesota remains without Ryan Jeffers, who had been batting .295/.408/.541 before fracturing his left hamate. What remains is a divisional game between a rising club learning to survive an enormous injury and a favorite trying to stop a skid with its best starting pitcher. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox.

Twins vs. White Sox prediction, preview
Joe Ryan supplies Minnesota’s strongest reason for calm. The right-hander enters 3-3 with a 2.94 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 70 strikeouts and only 14 walks across 64 1/3 innings. His deeper line is equally firm: a 2.83 xERA, .269 xwOBA allowed, .204 expected batting average, .332 expected slugging percentage and 22.0% strikeout-minus-walk rate. He handled this lineup last Tuesday, limiting Chicago to two runs on five hits across 7 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts. Murakami supplied the damaging home run in that outing; Ryan now faces the rematch without Chicago’s fiercest left-handed threat. David Sandlin is the uncertainty Minnesota must solve. Chicago’s right-hander made his major-league debut against these Twins last Wednesday, surrendered a Byron Buxton homer on his second pitch, then retired 18 consecutive hitters. Sandlin finished six innings with one hit, one run, no walks and four strikeouts on 61 pitches, reaching 99.3 mph with a fastball that averaged 97.7. Minnesota has seen him now. It still has to show that familiarity creates better contact.
Murakami’s absence removes the central violence from a Chicago offense that tied for the MLB lead with 42 home runs in May. He had slashed .240/.378/.560 with 20 home runs, 41 RBI, 44 walks, a .401 wOBA and a 157 wRC+ before straining his right hamstring. The surviving lineup has more substance than one injury headline suggests. Miguel Vargas carries a .232/.361/.473 line with 13 home runs, alongside a .389 xwOBA, .519 xSLG and 14.8% barrel rate. Montgomery is batting .235/.329/.498 with 15 homers and a .263 ISO, then closed May with home runs on consecutive days. Chase Meidroth has supplied traffic at .269/.340/.392, while Peters has hit .289/.353/.408 and delivered Sunday’s winning single. Jacob Gonzalez has already recorded his first major-league hit after earning promotion with a .317/.419/.668 line, 19 home runs and 62 RBI at Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago no longer carries its most dangerous bat, yet its order still contains contact, lift and enough length to force Ryan through difficult plate appearances.
Minnesota’s offense is more concentrated. Buxton remains the one hitter capable of making Sandlin’s debut feel irrelevant immediately. He is batting .260/.323/.563 with 17 home runs, a .303 ISO, .379 wOBA and 142 wRC+, and he already drove Sandlin’s fastball 417 feet. Brooks Lee enters as the warm secondary bat after hitting two home runs and driving in all three Minnesota runs Sunday. The lineup becomes considerably thinner without Jeffers. Before his injury, the catcher owned a .414 wOBA and 165 wRC+, giving Buxton a patient, powerful partner through the middle innings. Josh Bell enters around .220/.279/.340, while Victor Caratini has offered little damage in Jeffers’ place. Minnesota’s late pitching has also become a central concern. Bailey Ober joined the injured list with elbow inflammation after allowing seven earned runs in Pittsburgh, and Mike Paredes needed 65 pitches Sunday to rescue a battered staff. Chicago just won a game after trailing through six innings. Minnesota has spent the past week letting games widen once the first pitching plan broke.
White Sox vs. Twins pick, best bet
The market gives Minnesota respect for Ryan, posting the Twins at -156 with Chicago returning +129 on the moneyline. The under at eight makes sense through two damaged lineups and two credible starters, although it leaves the wager vulnerable to Minnesota’s relief bridge after Ryan exits. Twins first-five exposure isolates the most established pitcher in the game, yet it asks Minnesota to separate early from Sandlin only five days after he erased this order for six innings. Chicago’s team total requires four runs against Ryan before losing Murakami can fully be absorbed. The full-game moneyline places the bet where Chicago has earned confidence: Sandlin only needs to keep the score manageable, Vargas and Montgomery receive nine innings to find one damaging swing, and the White Sox can attack a Twins staff carrying injury churn and recent late-game strain.
Best Bet: Chicago White Sox moneyline (+129), playable to +115. Ryan can certainly dominate a diminished order, and the ticket can lose quickly if Buxton drives Sandlin’s fastball again before Lee converts more early traffic. Chicago still owns the sturdier nine-inning argument. The White Sox have won five straight, controlled this matchup last week, found late offense after losing Murakami and bring a starter whose first answer to Buxton’s home run was 18 consecutive outs. Minnesota’s best hitter remains dangerous, but Jeffers’ absence and the pitching instability behind Ryan leave too much burden on a favorite priced as though its skid has been incidental.
Final score prediction: White Sox 4, Twins 3.
Best bet: White Sox (+130) at Twins
