Seattle Mariners vs. Arizona Diamondbacks prediction, pick for MLB on Sunday 5/31/26

Seattle spent much of May trying to reach level ground. It arrives at Sunday with considerably grander stakes. The Mariners are 30-29, lead the AL West and have won five straight games. Arizona is 31-26, sits third in the NL West and came to T-Mobile Park after winning 10 of 12. Seattle has made that form look distant. Friday brought a 7-6 extra-inning escape, sealed by Randy Arozarena’s walk-off double. Saturday delivered a cleaner 5-1 victory, built on Bryan Woo’s seven scoreless innings and four solo home runs. The Mariners have hit eight homers through two games of the series. J.P. Crawford hit two Friday. Julio Rodríguez and Luke Raley have gone deep in both games. A series that opened as a meeting of hot clubs has become a chance for Seattle to close May with a sweep and a division lead. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mariners vs. Diamondbacks prediction, preview

Merrill Kelly is the kind of starter who can complicate an obvious momentum story. The Arizona right-hander has won four consecutive starts and recorded four straight quality outings. His most recent turn brought seven innings of two-run baseball at San Francisco. Kelly also owns a 2.70 ERA in three career starts against Seattle. His full-season contact record paints a more hazardous picture. Kelly enters at 5-3 with a 5.25 ERA, 31 strikeouts and 20 walks across 48 innings. He has allowed eight home runs, with only a 32.9% ground-ball rate. His Statcast page is even louder: a .407 expected wOBA allowed, 91.0 mph average exit velocity, 45.5% hard-hit rate and 17.3% barrel rate. Recent execution has kept the damage manageable. Seattle’s current order is built to make every elevated miss expensive.

Luke Raley is the most dangerous hitter in that confrontation. He enters batting .279/.338/.592 with a team-leading 13 home runs and 31 RBI. He has homered in both games of this series, extending a season defined by ferocious impact. Raley owns a 91.6 mph average exit velocity, 51.1% hard-hit rate, 20.7% barrel rate, .387 wOBA and .381 xwOBA. Kelly must also work through six left-handed bats in Seattle’s confirmed lineup, including Raley, Crawford, Josh Naylor, Cole Young, Dominic Canzone and Colt Emerson. That construction presses Kelly where his pitch plan is most vulnerable. His four-seam fastball and changeup form much of his work against lefties, while those offerings have produced expected wOBA figures above .450. Raley’s swing is the central threat, with the lineup around him making avoidance nearly impossible.

Rodríguez supplies the electricity above him. He is batting .269/.326/.475 with 12 home runs and 30 RBI, then reached a career-high 10 homers during May. Friday’s homer left his bat at 113.6 mph. Saturday’s shot gave him consecutive games with a long ball against Arizona. His 90.4 mph average exit velocity and 43.6% hard-hit rate support a surge grounded in sturdy contact. Arozarena adds the most dependable traffic bat, carrying a .292/.376/.458 line with 16 doubles, six homers and 15 steals. Canzone gives the bottom half unusual bite. He is batting .240/.314/.471 with six homers, then doubled and homered Saturday. His 93.0 mph average exit velocity, 49.5% hard-hit rate and 15.4% barrel rate rival the loudest bats in the order. Crawford’s two-homer opener and Emerson’s Saturday blast show how little safety Kelly finds after escaping the marquee names.

Arizona still carries enough offense to keep any Seattle margin wager uncomfortable. Corbin Carroll enters with a .288/.384/.535 line, and his Statcast markers carry equal force: 91.1 mph average exit velocity, 48.3% hard-hit rate, 13.1% barrel rate and .404 wOBA. Ketel Marte remains the other fulcrum. He has a 90.8 mph average exit velocity, 44.8% hard-hit rate and an expected wOBA running ahead of his already useful results. Arizona scored six runs Friday because its lineup supported those headliners. Geraldo Perdomo produced three hits and a home run. Gabriel Moreno added three hits and two RBI, while his .346 xwOBA and 12.0% barrel rate suggest genuine middle-order impact. Nolan Arenado’s return would add another accomplished run producer after Saturday’s precautionary scratch for groin tightness. This is still a lineup capable of punishing a mistake and squeezing a close game late.

Diamondbacks vs. Mariners pick, best bet

Seattle’s pitching arrangement sharply reduces that threat across nine innings. Bryce Miller starts after returning with a 2.25 ERA, 14 strikeouts and two walks in 16 innings. His batted-ball suppression has been exceptional: an 86.6 mph average exit velocity allowed, 28.3% hard-hit rate, 4.3% barrel rate and .234 xwOBA. Luis Castillo is scheduled to follow him, continuing a tandem setup that has produced four runs allowed in 17 innings with 21 strikeouts and five walks over two uses. The arrangement has carried visible frustration from both pitchers, yet the competitive result has been imposing. Arizona faces premium stuff twice through the afternoon, with no soft middle-relief interval guaranteed after Miller departs. Seattle gets Kelly first, then an Arizona bullpen already asked to protect tense innings twice in this series.

That distinction decides the market. A full-game total requires Arizona to break through Miller and Castillo. A Seattle run line asks its pitching plan to neutralize Carroll, Marte, Moreno and perhaps Arenado by enough margin. The Mariners’ offense presents the cleaner demand. Four runs require one productive pass through a lineup that has already battered Arizona for eight series homers. Kelly’s recent quality starts deserve respect, yet his contact quality remains an ominous fit against Raley’s barrel thunder, Rodríguez’s May eruption, Arozarena’s reach-and-drive game and Canzone’s lower-order power. The way this ticket falls short is Kelly extending his revival with another deep, careful outing; Seattle’s left-handed depth and present impact form still give the home club repeated ways to reach four.

Best Bet: Mariners team total over 3.5 runs (-130)

Projected score: Mariners 5, Diamondbacks 3

Best bet: Mariners TT o3.5 runs (-130) vs. Diamondbacks
