The Tigers and White Sox play the second game of their three-game series on Saturday, May 30.

Detroit is a -126 moneyline favorite, while Chicago is +104 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under eight runs.

Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Tigers vs. White Sox game.

Tigers vs. White Sox prediction, preview

The AL Central has been unusual for the past few seasons. It’s difficult to predict who will lead the division even when it seems obvious during spring training. Last year, the Guardians beat the Tigers by one game for the division crown. Both teams earned a postseason spot. The White Sox, meanwhile, were 60-102, which was the second worst record in the majors. Fast forward to 2026 … the White Sox are second and the Tigers are in last in the division.

There’s a lot of time for things to change. It’s not even June yet, so let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Still, the first two months have been disappointing for Detroit and exciting for Chicago. This is the first series between the clubs this season.

Solely based on name recognition and career stats, the Tigers should have the advantage with Framber Valdez starting. He was a consistent starter for the Astros, holding an ERA no greater than 3.66 from 2020-2025. In his first year with the Tigers, his outings have been erratic. He has a 4.28 ERA with multiple implosions and a few stellar performances. The veteran recently pitched six innings of one-run ball against the Orioles, allowing just two hits. He also allowed seven earned runs and nine hits in three innings earlier this month against the Red Sox.

Anthony Kay doesn’t have an All-Star name or career, but he’s been more consistent this year. He’s allowed two or fewer earned runs in all five starts in May, all of which have gone at least five frames. His 3.96 ERA isn’t jaw-dropping, but it’s considerably better than his previous seasons. Furthermore, the left-hander hasn’t pitched since the 2023 season, yet he looks reborn in 2026.

Tigers vs. White Sox Pick, Best Bet

The White Sox struggled to get a victory a year ago. Now, they’re competing for the division lead with the Guardians. Meanwhile, it’s the Tigers who are digging themselves deeper below .500.

Valdez has had good starts this year, but he’s unpredictable and I’m not trusting him on the road.

Best Bet: Chicago White Sox ML (+104)
