Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels prediction, pick for MLB on Wednesday 5/27/26

The Angels and Tigers arrive at Comerica Park with the same 21-34 record and very different emotional weather. Los Angeles has finally found a little road lift, carrying a four-game winning streak into Detroit after Tuesday’s 10-6 comeback turned a quiet night into a late-inning ambush. The Tigers are 13-13 at home, yet Comerica has started to feel heavy after another blown lead and a rough stretch in their own park. The baseball case is more interesting than the standings. The Angels have lived through a high-variance profile all year, hitting .228/.314/.384 with 66 HR and 527 strikeouts through 55 games. Detroit has been flatter at .233/.315/.370 with 47 HR and 446 strikeouts, but Tuesday’s six-run push at least showed a lineup capable of creating traffic before the night gets to the bullpens. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Detroit Tigers and the Los Angeles Angels.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Tigers vs. Angels prediction, preview

Casey Mize gives Detroit a real opening grip. He enters at 2-3 with a 2.47 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 43 strikeouts, 11 walks and two HR allowed in 43.2 innings, and his Comerica work has been excellent: 1.49 ERA, .174 opponent average and 0.79 WHIP across 24.1 home innings. He has carved through the first nine batters with a 0.00 ERA and 0.84 WHIP, and four quality starts in his last five outings speak to the rhythm he has found. The Angels’ path starts with the split that keeps this from becoming a one-note pitcher lean. Right-handed hitters have produced a .288 average, 4.20 ERA split and 1.47 WHIP against Mize, and Los Angeles can stack Zach Neto, Mike Trout, Jorge Soler, Jo Adell, Oswald Peraza and Logan O’Hoppe into that lane. The traffic numbers sharpen it further: Mize has a 0.35 ERA with the bases empty, then a 5.76 ERA with runners on and an 8.90 ERA with runners in scoring position. José Soriano brings the Angels a nastier pure power profile at 6-3 with a 2.44 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 74 strikeouts, while Detroit’s left-handed and switch-heavy pocket has a way into him. Left-handed hitters own a .216/.305/.328 line and four of the five HR allowed against Soriano, and his RISP split sits at 10.88 ERA.

The Angels’ scoring ceiling still begins with Trout. He carries 13 HR, 28 RBI, 48 walks, an .874 OPS, a .418 xwOBA, a 20.6% barrel rate and a 48.5% hard-hit rate, giving Los Angeles the most complete damage bat in the game. Neto adds first-inning bite with 10 HR, 12 doubles, 38 runs, 31 walks, a .778 OPS and a 12.6% barrel rate, and his athletic top-of-order presence matters against a starter whose trouble has come once men reach base. Soler adds nine HR and 30 RBI, Adell brings eight HR, 29 RBI, 91.5 mph average exit velocity, 46.5% hard-hit rate and a .338 xwOBA, and Peraza has helped the lower half with a .277/.346/.461 line, six HR and an .807 OPS. Grissom now walks into this game with the freshest swing on either side after a three-hit, six-RBI night capped by the go-ahead grand slam. Detroit’s lineup has less depth, but the top half fits the assignment. Riley Greene is hitting .306/.404/.444 with an .848 OPS, 15 doubles, 30 walks, 90.5 mph average exit velocity, 50.0% hard-hit rate, 12.9% barrel rate and a .375 xwOBA. Kevin McGonigle gives the Tigers a steadier runway at .291/.395/.427 with 12 doubles, three triples, 32 walks against 30 strikeouts and a .374 xwOBA, while Dillon Dingler brings catcher thump with 10 HR, 31 RBI, a .455 slugging percentage, 49.2% hard-hit rate, 13.7% barrel rate and a .389 xwOBA.

The resistance comes from how cold both offenses have been in the exact split this game asks them to solve. Los Angeles has hit .220/.278/.359 with a .637 OPS, 20 HR, 36 walks and 173 strikeouts against right-handed pitching over the last 30 days. Detroit has been even lighter against righties over its last 10, sitting at .192/.241/.258 with a .500 OPS, two HR, 15 walks and 65 strikeouts. Those numbers keep this from becoming a careless chase after Tuesday’s score. They also leave enough room for a matchup-specific read. Mize’s right-handed split gives the Angels a defined attack point, and his second pass through the order has been far shakier than his first. Soriano’s ground-ball profile can smother innings, yet his recent seven-game sample includes a 3.91 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 18 walks and four HR allowed, with a 7.71 ERA in the sixth inning. Tuesday’s production had substance behind it: Neto and O’Hoppe both supplied multi-hit work for Los Angeles, Grissom delivered the game-breaking swing, and Detroit countered with three hits and a two-run triple from McGonigle, two hits from Colt Keith, a Wenceel Pérez homer and multiple run-scoring outs.

Angels vs. Tigers pick, best bet

The full-game total is the cleanest market shape. First Five sits in a tough pocket because Mize and Soriano both have the stuff to control the first trip through the order, while the Angels’ team total asks one offense to carry the wager against a starter with a 1.49 home ERA. Detroit’s team total has a left-handed route into Soriano, but the Tigers’ recent righty-split form creates a lower floor. Over 7.5 gets the broadest set of scoring paths. It captures Mize’s right-handed split, Soriano’s left-handed split, both RISP profiles, the middle-inning stress points and two bullpens with enough volatility to turn a modest starter duel into a late push. Detroit’s relief group has a 6.46 ERA over the last seven days, with late-inning strain around Kenley Jansen, Tyler Holton and Will Vest after Tuesday’s eighth-inning collapse. The Angels’ bullpen has been better over the past week with a 2.16 ERA, yet the larger season profile remains walk-prone and uneven enough to keep Detroit live if Greene, McGonigle or Dingler brings traffic into the late innings.

Best bet: Angels-Tigers Over 7.5. The number is playable at 7.5 at standard juice and loses appeal at 8 unless the price improves. The cleanest failure mode is a sharp Mize splitter owning the Angels’ right-handed power early while Soriano’s ground-ball stuff keeps Detroit from turning left-handed traffic into crooked innings, but the full-game build still points to enough scoring. The handedness pressure is real on both starters, the RISP splits create midgame stress, Comerica’s gaps can reward line-drive contact in warm air, and the bullpen portion of this matchup is far too unstable to treat a low-scoring first half as safe.

Final score projection: Angels 5, Tigers 4.

Best bet: Tigers vs. Angels o7.5 total runs (-110)
