Kevin Gausman is making his 12th start of the season—his fifth year with the Blue Jays and 14th in the majors. The veteran is once again playing well, holding a 3.23 ERA through 64 innings. He’s allowed one earned run in his last two starts (12.2 innings). That type of momentum is hard to come by, and it should be beneficial for the Blue Jays. That said, Trey Yesavage also had been excellent leading up to his start against Miami, but that ended with five earned runs in 6.2 frames.
Eury Perez is starting for the Marlins in his age-23 season. The young right-hander is coming off a 6.1-inning performance in which he allowed two hits, one earned run (solo home run) and zero walks. The other four starts in May haven’t been as tidy. He allowed five, five, three, and two earned runs in those outings.
