New York Knicks ML (+114)
The Knicks are on an incredible nine-game winning streak in the postseason. This team was in desperation mode in Game 4 in Atlanta in the first round, down 2-1 to the Hawks. It looked like an NBA Finals-level team could have ended up with one of the most disappointing finishes in franchise history. However, the Knicks kicked it into gear and dominated the Hawks over the final three games of that series. They carried that momentum into the series with the 76ers and swept Philadelphia. After a long break before the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks came out rusty in Game 1, but they mounted one of the greatest comebacks in postseason history to beat the Cavaliers in overtime. They followed that up with a decisive second half in Game 2 to go up 2-0 in this series.
This is a desperation game for the Cavaliers. If they go down 3-0, the series is just about over. However, it’s unclear how much the Cavaliers have left in the tank. They had to go to seven games in both series so far in this postseason. Then, they had the absolute heartbreak of Game 1 at Madison Square Garden. This could be a team on its last legs, while the Knicks look like an unstoppable force. The Cavaliers could have one more big win in them, but I’ll happily take the team on a nine-game winning streak at plus-money tonight.
Karl-Anthony Towns 4+ Assists (-167)
Karl-Anthony Towns has taken his playmaking ability to the next level in this postseason. He was a great scorer and rebounder all season, but he averaged just 3.0 assists per game in the regular season. Whether you view it as a positive or negative, Towns was always looking for a bucket when he got the ball in his hands. This postseason has been much different, however. Towns is averaging 6.0 assists per game in the postseason, double the amount he averaged in the regular season.
Towns is getting the ball in the mid-post or one of the elbows and looking for open teammates. Rather than putting his head down and deciding how best to get a bucket, he is looking for cutters or open shooters on the perimeter. Towns has recorded at least four assists in 10 out of 12 postseason games so far. He should keep that run going in this game.
James Harden 4+ Rebounds (-262)
It has not been a great series for James Harden so far, mainly on the defensive end of the floor. Jalen Brunson consistently victimized Harden in any compilation you watch of the Knicks’ historic Game 1 comeback. The same problem presented itself in Game 2, with Brunson taking on Harden as much as possible in that second half. In addition to his defensive struggles, he has not hit the highs offensively that he did in the first two series of the postseason. This Game 3 is Harden’s chance to save his team’s season, and he should give his best effort of the series so far.
One thing that Harden has done consistently, not just in this series, but this postseason, is rebound the basketball. Harden’s rebound numbers have seen a small uptick from the regular season to the postseason. He averaged 4.8 rebounds per game in the regular season, but he has averaged 5.2 per game in the postseason. Harden has now grabbed at least four boards in five straight games dating back to the Pistons series. He should keep that run going in this game. This should be a desperation effort from the Cavaliers to keep their season alive, which should lead to Harden playing as many minutes as possible and giving a maximum effort in every facet of the game.
