Cole Caufield anytime goal scorer (+175)
It’s been an up-and-down postseason for Cole Caufield. The Canadiens’ young star finished as the runner-up for the Rocket Richard Trophy during the regular season with 51 goals, trailing only Nathan MacKinnon in potted shots. However, he’s scored just five goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and had only one across his first nine outings. Since then, he’s come online with four goals in his last six games, also finding the back of the net in Game 1 of this series on his lone attempt. His shot volume has waned at times, but he’s a very efficient finisher (19.8% during the regular season) and is still second on the Montreal roster with 35 shots on goal in the postseason. To top it off, he led the team with three goals in three games against the Hurricanes in the regular season, bringing him to four total in four matchups after the series opener.
Andrei Svechnikov anytime goal scorer (+205)
It’s pretty clear that something is up with Andrei Svechnikov, who hasn’t been himself across nine postseason games. He has just four points in those outings with three assists and only one goal, which came in Game 3 of the second round against the Philadelphia Flyers. That broke a six-game streak without a goal to begin the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and he hasn’t scored in two outings since that one. However, he does have eight shots on goal across those last three games and has a total of 27 shot attempts in the postseason, an average of three per night. He’s shooting only 3.7% on those tries, which is an outlier bound for positive regression at some point after scoring 31 goals in the regular season, the most of his career. The reason why I’m bullish on this pick? Svechnikov has 13 goals in 20 career games against the Canadiens, tied for the most of any skater on the Carolina roster.
