Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels prediction, pick for Saturday 5/16/26

The Freeway Series continues on Saturday night. It’s another ho-hum season for the Dodgers (27-18), angling for a third straight world championship. Picking up a series win over the struggling Angels (16-29) wouldn’t come as a surprise. However, the Halos have a secret weapon on the mound this evening in Jose Soriano. Can the budding young ace stifle one of baseball’s premier lineups?

The Dodgers are favorites (-136) over the Angels, with the over/under set at 8.5 runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Saturday’s battle for Los Angeles on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Dodgers vs. Angels prediction, preview

The Dodgers, despite several major injures, remain the odds-on favorite to win the World Series. As always, the defending champs seem to churn out a never-ending supply of quality pitching. The latest standout in this star-studded rotation is Justin Wrobleski. Through 44.2 innings, the 25-year-old has recorded a 2.42 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. Remarkably, he’s done so without generating many whiffs (12.4 K%). The key for Wrobleski has been exceptional control; he’s notched a 6.2 BB%, within the top 84th percentile for all pitchers. Still, a 4.06 xERA hints at some negative regression in the near future.

Facing Wrobleski tonight will be an Angels offense that has struggled as of late. During their last 15 games, the Halos have scored an MLB-worst 37 runs. That’s despite a terrific 2026 campaign from face of the franchise Mike Trout. Through 44 games, the outfielder is slashing .244/.407/.494 with 11 home runs and 23 RBIs. As a unit, this squad owns the third-worst batting average in the majors (.228). LAA hitters owns a 27.9% whiff rate, third-highest in baseball. Wrobleski, not a strikeout artist, will need to take advantage of this free-swinging lineup.

Despite their lackluster hitting, the Angels aren’t without hope tonight. That’s due to the presence of their best pitcher, Soriano. The fourth-year pro had been a solid, albeit inconsistent, hurler throughout his professional career. However, the 27-year-old seems to have made major strides this season. Over nine outings, he’s posted a 1.66 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 61 strikeouts (10.1 K/9). There’s no reason to believe this is a fluke, either. The Dominican ranks inside the 98th percentile among all hurlers in pitching run value per Savant. Soriano has allowed one earned run or fewer in seven of his nine starts.

As previously mentioned, the Dodgers are an offensive juggernaut. They’ve scored 223 total runs this season, sixth-most in the sport. The return of former MVP Mookie Betts, sidelined due to an oblique strain, will only help going forward. Still, Soriano has had some success in this spot. Last August, he held the Dodgers scoreless over six innings. His two most favored secondary pitches are his curveball (25%) and splitter (17%). Against those two offerings, Los Angeles has put up a .203 expected batting average.

Dodgers vs. Angels pick, best bet

The defending champions going up against the team with baseball’s worst record? It’s difficult to get very excited for the Halos tonight. However, it’s impossible to ignore the advantage that the Angels have on the mound in this one. Wrobleski’s inability to induce K’s is a major red flag, while Soriano has proven he can silence the Dodgers. At plus money, I’ll take my chances with the home team on Saturday

Best Bet: Angels ML (+113)
