DraftKings has a new promotion in May. It’s the MLB Grand Slam Payout.
The concept is simple. Opt in and get a MLB Grand Slam Payout token. Use that token on a single wager or for a parlay on a player to hit a home run, and if that home runs ends up being a grand slam, receive a share of $250,000 in bonus bets — or more!
After two straight days without a grand slam, the prize pool for Saturday is up to $750,000 in bonus bets. With all 30 teams in action on Rivalry Weekend, it should be a full day of action. Six games are on the schedule for the afternoon, with nine games under the lights. Can someone break through for a grand slam this Saturday?
Let’s dive in and break down some picks.
MLB Grand Slam Payout Picks
Ildemaro Vargas, Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks are in Denver for this weekend, facing the Rockies at homer-happy Coors Field. On Friday, the Dbacks racked up nine runs on 13 hits to win the first game of the series, and they should be in a good spot to put up runs again on Saturday afternoon. Righty Tomoyuki Sugano will start for Colorado, and in his eight starts this year, he has allowed nine homers with a 4.07 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. In his 21 innings at Coors, he has allowed 11 runs on 21 hits, with lefties hitting six of the nine homers against him this season.
Since we’re hunting grand slams, let’s look a little lower in the lineup. One option that jumps off the page is Ildemaro Vargas, who is in the midst of a breakout season for Arizona. The 34-year-old utility man is hitting a blistering .347 with seven homers and a .412 wOBA this season. He has a .229 ISO on the year, and even though his batted-ball metrics aren’t off the charts, he continues to produce plenty of power. He has five of his seven homers in his last 21 games, and even though most of them have come against lefties and at home, we can look past those splits to take a shot on Vargas in this good homer environment on Saturday afternoon. Despite his success, he’s not an extremely well-known option, so there could be some great value in his grand slam payout if it hits as well.
Andrew Vaughn, Brewers
The Brewers are in Minnesota for their Rivalry Weekend series against the Twins, and the weather looks great at Target Field with temperatures over 80 degrees and winds blowing out. The Brewers don’t have an ideal matchup against promising rookie lefty Connor Prielipp, but Prielipp has given up three homers in four starts and has had some walk issues in the past few years in the minors. Prielipp has a 3.32 ERA in his four starts but a 4.36 FIP and a 12.2% barrel rate against him that indicate he could be due for a little regression.
Vaughn missed a huge portion of the season with a hamate bone fracture that he suffered on Opening Day when he was hit by a pitch. He returned at the start of May and has only hit one homer in his 30 plate appearances. He has still been productive, hitting .292 in his eight games with four walks, two doubles and five RBIs. He has a 45% hard-hit rate over that span with a .347 xBA and .500 SLG. He’s hitting the ball well, even though the results have been a little mixed. He’s hitting .375 in his limited work against lefties this year, and last year in his breakout season, he hit .313 against lefties with three homers and a .374 wOBA. Vaughn hits low enough in the order that he should get chances with runners on base, and if he gets an at-bat with the bases loaded, he could deliver a massive payout with a grand slam on Saturday. Both he and Vargas are sleeper plays for Saturday, but they are in good potential spots to deliver.

- Place a Single, Parlay, or SGP bet on a player to hit a home run and if their home run is a grand slam, receive a share of $250,000 in Bonus Bets! (minimum $5 bet, maximum three legs for a parlay)
- If the player in your qualifying bet hits a grand slam you’ll win a share of $250,000 in Bonus Bets.
- If no grand slams are hit, the bonus prize pool will carry over to the next day the Promotion is offered.
