Atlanta Braves team total over 3.5 runs (-120) vs. Seattle Mariners
This play leans a bit on recent performance. Bryan Woo had been fantastic up until his last two starts. Against the Royals and Cardinals, he allowed 13 runs on 16 hits, including SIX home runs through nine innings. These weren’t Woo getting unlucky either, as he owned an xERA of 7.12 against the Royals and a 32.39 against the Cardinals. Now he’ll face the Braves, who continue to roll offensively. They’re averaging seven runs per game over their last five and are the league leader in runs scored. Woo throws a heavy number of four-seam fastballs, which today’s expected Braves lineup has a combined .431 wOBA and a .321 ISO against this season.
Jackson Merrill 3+ H/R/RBI (+140) vs. San Francisco Giants
I promise you’re not reading yesterday’s article; I’m going back to Merrill again today. Yesterday, he crushed his 2+ H/R/RBI prop, logging seven combined H/R/RBI. I’m going with three for him today in another fantastic matchup. Today, he’ll be facing Adrian Houser, who has horrific numbers against left-handed bats. This season, Houser has been tagged for a .504 wOBA and a 6.91 FIP, with four of the six home runs he’s allowed. The sample size is small, but if we pull back his stats to 2024, he still has a .384 wOBA with a 5.42 FIP and a 1.4 HR/9. This sets up for early offense, and Merrill should be right in the middle of it.
Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers over 4.5 runs through first five innings (-115)
The Red Sox and Tigers could feature a lot of early offense with Sonny Gray and Jack Flaherty set to pitch tonight. Gray will be making his first start since April 20th, as he spent some time on the injured list due to a hamstring issue. He’s been shaky even before that and owns a 4.30 ERA with an xERA of 5.66. His strikeout numbers have cratered, with a K/9 of 5, by far the lowest of his career. His curveball and four-seam have been very ineffective as well, as opposing hitters have tagged them for a .558 wOBA and a .476 wOBA. This is a tough spot for him against the Tigers.
Flaherty has not been sharp at all. He has a 5.90 ERA, an xERA of 5.34, and a 6.18 FIP. The walks have been a killer for him, as his 7.76 BB/9 is a current career high. He hasn’t thrown more than 3.2 innings in his last three starts, including against the Red Sox. While he didn’t allow a run through 3.1 innings, he did issue six walks. That is going to come back and bite him if that continues, and the Red Sox are a patient lineup. Give me at least five runs through the first five innings tonight.
