San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres prediction, pick for MLB on Tuesday 5/5/26

The Giants and Padres play the second game of their three-game series on Tuesday, May 5.

San Francisco is a -131 moneyline favorite, while San Diego is +109 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under 7.5 runs.

Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Giants vs. Padres game.

Giants vs. Padres prediction, preview

NL West baseball caps off Tuesday’s MLB slate, and while division games are exciting, this matchup isn’t particularly close in the standings. The Padres are 20-14, just 1.5 games behind the division-leading Dodgers. The Giants are 14-21, just a half game ahead of the last-place Rockies.

Still, the Giants are favored thanks to Logan Webb starting at home. Webb has been a consistent Cy Young candidate over the past few seasons, but he hasn’t had the best 2026. He pitches deep into games, with his shortest outing being one 5.0-inning start, but he has a 4.30 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 44.0 innings.

On the bright side, Webb allowed one earned run (a solo shot) through seven frames against the Phillies in his last start. Philadelphia has been one of the weaker offenses this season, but the Padres aren’t spectacular either. They rank 17th in runs per game. Webb allowed three earned runs, three hits and four walks in 6.0 innings against the Padres on March 31.

San Diego is starting Walker Buehler. After a strong first few seasons with the Dodgers, Buehler hasn’t been the same. He’s in his first year with the Padres and has a 5.40 ERA through six starts and 25.0 innings. Luckily for him, the Giants’ offense ranks last in runs per game. His season debut was against San Francisco on March 30. He allowed three earned runs, five hits and two walks in 4.0 innings.

Buehler won’t last long, so it’ll be up to the Padres’ relievers to limit the Giants until Mason Miller can close the game. Webb likely won’t need much bullpen help, but if he does, the Giants have the second best bullpen ERA in the majors.

Giants vs. Padres Pick, Best Bet

Although the Padres have a better record than the Giants right now, neither team is playing well lately. San Diego has lost five of its last six, while San Francisco has lost six of its last seven.

The Giants won the first game of this series, but I’ll side with the Padres since they have more value in what seems like a toss-up game.

Best Bet: San Diego Padres ML (+109)
