The Canadiens have been real stingy thus far, creating more high-quality chances on offense, while playing tighter defense with tons of blocked shots. For reference, Montreal has logged six more high-danger chances and blocked 19 more shots than Tampa Bay thus far.
Game 1 featured five combined power play goals, but there have been just four combined power play goals across the last four games. This has resulted in these lower-scoring affairs and tight 5v5 play, with the Habs scoring nine 5v5 goals, and the Bolts scoring eight. There really couldn’t have been a more balanced series than this one, and it’s no surprise that we’re likely looking at a potential Game 7 scenario.
The Lightning have been a powerhouse for much of this generation, and the club is certainly no stranger to win-or-go-home scenarios. While Andrei Vasilevskiy has looked off this whole series with a 2.68 GAA and .880 SV%, he has been here before and should be locked in tonight. Aside from the experience and goaltending advantage, this Lightning team was simply a better regular-season team. It’s sort of crazy these highly-skilled offenses have been held down so well this series, but the familiarity is too strong now, and neither team is going to take many high-risk chances in a game of this magnitude.
