Who Died in The Boys Season 5 Episode 5?

It’s all about the villains, er The Seven, this week on The Boys. Audiences were treated to a unique POV episode, highlighting several of the Amazon Prime series’ most hated characters. At its climax, Wednesday’s show provided one of the season’s most impactful deaths.

Let’s break down every major death and plot development for season five’s fifth installment, titled “One-Shots”.

(Warning: Spoilers for The Boys Season 5, Episode 5 ahead.)

Who died in The Boys Season 5 Episode 5?

As previously mentioned, this was a unique episode for The Boys. Unlike the more traditional narrative structure we’ve seen in weeks past, Wednesday gave us a sneak peak at (almost) every member of The Seven. With the exception of Deep, each of the current members of Vought’s supe squad got their own time to shine.

It all got started with Firecracker, going through a major personal crisis. Despite expressing doubt to Soldier Boy, she had become a major piece for Homelander’s Democratic Church of America. That includes framing her hometown pastor as a criminal and denouncing her old church live on air. Later, we get to peak behind the curtain (literally) at Black Noir’s blossoming acting career. That is, until a petty Deep sent an eel to kill Noir’s mentor inside of a bathroom stall.

While most of this episode centered around the villains, we did get to catch up with The Boys in an interesting way. Viewers were treated to the unique POV of Terror, Butcher’s steak-loving, constantly humping bulldog. After a near-scare involving chocolate, we saw a rare moment of teamwork between Billy and Hughie, who have been at odds all season. Butcher even opened up a bit, telling his former friend that he could grab some V1 antidote for Annie and Kimiko.

In New York, we checked back in with the mysterious Sister Sage. Despite playing second-fiddle to Homelander, the genius supe has been biding her time. In an honest moment with two-headed Ashley, Sage revealed that she’s actually hoping the Godolkin virus is unleashed. With supes angered and ready to kill humans, a new world war would be inevitable in her eyes. In the aftermath, with billions dead, she can get back to reading and being left alone. Somehow, Homelander isn’t the only one with an absolutely insane vision for the future.

To wrap things up, Homelander and Soldier Boy took a trip to Los Angeles in search of information on V1. There, they met up with speedster Mr. Marathon and his friend Malchemical. Because it’s Hollywood, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Robinson, Kumail Nanjiani, Seth Rogen, and Will Forte are all hanging out (as themselves) in Marathon’s basement.

What appears to be a friendly visit soon turns deadly, as the two supes set into motion a plan to gas and kill Homelander. It would have worked if Soldier Boy was willing to play along. Unfortunately, the old-school supe isn’t about to let a pair of has-beens take out his only son. In a shocking moment, Soldier Boy immediately kills Malchemical. Then, he uses the five comedians as gory human shields, slowing down Mr. Marathon. Right after getting crucial information on the whereabouts of V1, Homelander crushes the former Seven member’s head with one stomp.

Back in NYC, the episode closed with a meeting between Homelander and Firecracker. There, the latter was told to pack her things and leave immediately due to her internal reservations. Firecracker didn’t take the news lightly, begging and pleading with her boss to let her stick around. Rather than say no again, Homelander decided to impale her head on an eagle statue.

What to expect in The Boys Season 5 moving forward

A lot happened in Episode 5, but so much remains unsettled going forward. For starters, Annie (aka Starlight) still has yet to rejoin The Boys following her abrupt departure. While Hughie and Butcher seemed to find some common ground this week, the two are still at odds when it comes to the virus.

As for The Seven, Deep and Black Noir are teetering closer to an all-out brawl. The ramifications of that fight could effect more than just the pair. Soldier Boy’s hot and cold relationship with his own son is also something to monitor. Sister Sage’s own plans for world domination, er eradication, are in direct conflict to Homelander’s wises. Will anyone, perhaps Ashley, find a way to stop the pair? Just three episodes remain this season…
