We’re at the end of April, with the PGA venturing back to Florida for another Signature Event at Trump Doral, the Cadillac Championship. At the Cadillac Championship, DraftKings users can play in DraftKings PGA Pick6 contests for all four rounds. If you’re new, Pick6 is a single-user daily fantasy game where you select players to go over or under the totals.
Players teeing things up at Trump Doral in Miami this week will be taking on a longer course that features wide fairways and greens guarded by water at almost every turn. Doral is an expansive par 72 that measures over 7,500 yards, and in the past when we’ve seen it on the PGA TOUR, it has favored big hitters almost exclusively. Winning scores for this event fluctuate because even a little wind can make things extremely difficult, and we have seen winning scores on PGA TOUR events played here in past seasons as high as -4 (Patrick Reed, 2014).
With this course now hosting a signature event on the PGA TOUR, we have some big names in the field this week, including Scottie Scheffler and PLAYERS winner Cameron Young, who has already won in Florida this season. I reviewed additional statistics and course dynamics in the Cadillac Championship PGA Cheat Sheet and included some notes on the course below for Pick6 research.
“At over 7,500 yards, Trump Doral will play as one of the longest venues on the PGA TOUR this season, though it’s not as brutally long as it used to be, as player advancements have caught up to this length in recent years. Still, we’re very likely to see off-the-tee specialists excel this week. There are several extremely long par 4s and par 3s that will require high ball flights to hold the notably firm and fast greens, and several holes where power will allow you to bypass more water and set you up better for your approach.
Back when this event was on the PGA TOUR, it was typically a venue where we saw longer hitters like Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott excel, and for the most part, we’ve seen much of the same at this venue when it hosted LIV stroke play events in 2024 and 2025. Dean Burmester, one of the longest hitters in pro golf, won here in a playoff in 2024, and last year, the big-hitting Marc Leishman took home his first LIV Golf win at Doral, followed closely by Bryson DeChambeau, who finished just a couple of strokes back.
Overall, this is a venue where I would certainly feel OK about emphasizing Driving Distance and off-the-tee play almost as much as approach. While iron play is still wildly important on a course like Doral, where we see water in play on at least 16 holes, power and good driving mean you can cut corners and avoid big scores. Additionally, players with high ball flights (apex height) should also have a better shot at excelling, as they’ll be able to hold greens better than most.”
As of now, we have Round 1 totals up on the Pick6 site for play, so that’s where we’ll be focusing this week. The players out first are expected to have slightly better conditions with winds picking up throughout the day. If you’re targeting stroke totals or birdie-or-better totals, keep that in mind.
With that in mind, I’ve focused on a few of my favorite plays for the Cadillac Championship in Round 1 below.

Rickie Fowler More Than 3.5 birdies or better
I like the way Fowler played in his last start at the RBC, where he landed T-8 and put together four solid rounds. The American was undoubtedly feeling some pressure heading into the Masters, as he had not qualified, and it caused him to miss a couple of cuts in a row. However, he also posted a top-10 at Bay Hill in March, another very tough, water-logged course.
Overall, Fowler is a two-time winner in Florida and seems to have found some form early on. With the Masters pressure now lifted, this week may be a sneaky spot to target him for fantasy and for Pick6; I don’t have a problem being bullish on him to outperform in Round 1. His multiplier is larger than the top players’ in birdies or better for Thursday, making it a great target.
Harry Hall More Than 71.5 strokes
Hall is a solid player, but when you look at his body of work, longer, more expansive golf courses, where scoring tends to be more difficult, aren’t necessarily his cup of tea. He’s generally more capable on classic courses like Colonial, and his PGA win came at a shorter Robert Trent Jones track in 2024.
Moreover, I’m not sure whether Hall’s form can be trusted right now. He had a disastrous start at the Masters, missing the cut badly, and then followed that up with a poor effort at the RBC, where he finished T-65 on a tighter course that really suited him. Given the conditions in store this week, where accurate driving and approach play will be key, I wouldn’t hesitate to fade this total in Round 1 play, expecting him to land at even par or worse.
J.J. Spaun More Than 2.5 bogeys or worse
Spaun did win a couple of starts ago in Texas, but given the conditions in play this week, I’ll still be of the opinion that we should be targeting the more than on these lower bogey-or-worse totals on the non-elite names. Despite the recent win, Spaun may be a better target for this total than he appears to be. He comes in ranked just 151st in bogey rate, and he didn’t exactly thrive in Florida this season, missing the cut badly at Bay Hill, which is likely a decent comparison for this week’s course.
Overall, I’m not sure if Spaun’s form is to be trusted just yet, as it came at the same course where he won a few years ago, and that likely instilled some confidence in him. We’re unlikely to see that this week. I’m all for fading him and playing that we’ll see three or more bogeys or worse from the American in Round 1.
