James Harden 8+ Assists (+110)
The Cavaliers took the midseason swing to bring in James Harden with the hopes it can get them over the playoff hump. His postseason experience was put on display in the opening matchup as Harden led the team with 10 assists and 22 points. The 11-time All-Star posted averages of 20.5 points and 7.7 assists across his 26 games played in Cleveland. He tallied 8+ assists in 12 of the regular-season games, and the Cavaliers will rely on his lengthy postseason experience again tonight. He masterfully handled the double-teams Toronto threw his way in Game 1, and he had great success putting the defense in vulnerable pick-and-roll spots for easy baskets. Count on Harden having the ball in his hands plenty and tallying 8+ assists for the second straight game.
Raptors +9.5 (-110)
Cleveland produced a 126-113 win in Game 1, with the matchup more competitive than the raw score showed. The Cavaliers broke the game open by outscoring the Raptors 36-22 in the third quarter, and Cleveland stretched the lead to as large as 24. However, the Raptors showed an impressive spark to close out the matchup. Toronto won the fourth quarter 37-29 and played some of its best basketball in the matchup. The young squad looked a bit overwhelmed by the playoff atmosphere, but it settled in as the game progressed. This is a Raptors team that swept the season series in the regular season. The Cavaliers did a nice job setting the tone and playing to their style of basketball, with the Raptors producing just three fast-break points. Expect the nerves to have subsided a bit for the younger Raptors squad and a more desperate effort than they showed in the first game. Toronto has played with an admiral level of spunk all season and expect it to leave it all on the floor with a necessary desperation tonight. Buckle up for a competitive matchup and expect the 9.5-point spread to be too significant tonight.
Scottie Barnes 6+ Assists (-136)
One of the biggest bright spots in this opening matchup from Toronto’s perspective was Scottie Barnes’ playmaking. The former fourth overall pick is the tone-setter for this team on both sides of the ball and possesses a unique style of play for his size. When the Raptors are fully clicking, it involves a heavy dose of Barnes pulling in rebounds on the defensive end and leading the fast break himself. Even without this being a frequent occurrence in Game 1, Barnes played his way to seven assists along with his 21 points. The Raptors’ most effective offense came when playing through Barnes, and he did an excellent job rewarding cutters for easy baskets. The two-time All-Star averaged 7.5 assists per game across the regular season and tallied at least six assists in 40 games this year. Expect Barnes to play to his expected level and deliver with at least six assists again tonight.
Brandon Ingram 20+ Points (-162)
While he still finished with 17 points, it was an underwhelming Brandon Ingram performance in Game 1. The 28-year-old took just nine field-goal attempts and one three-pointer, although he did get to the free-throw line 10 times. He was only held below 10 field-goal attempts in three games all season. Ingram’s willingness to attack the basket and get to the free-throw line was encouraging, but expect the Duke product to be more proactive in getting to his spots in the midrange and leading the Raptors’ scoring effort. Ingram averaged a team-high 21.5 points per game across the season and scored 20+ points in 45 of his 77 games played this year. While the playoff atmosphere can throw off some players from their game, Ingram’s style of play is built to shine on this stage. Expect Ingram to play in attack mode at a greater rate and tally 20+ points tonight.
