Josh Hart to Record 8+ Rebounds (-126)
While Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns headline the talent, Josh Hart sets the tone for this Knicks team. The Villanova product finished a regular season in which he posted averages of 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. This is also well below the 9.6 rebounds per game Hart averaged last year. With the bright lights of the postseason and an expanded role for him, Hart tallied a team-high 14 rebounds in Game 1. He will continue to see these opportunities with Atlanta being vulnerable in the frontcourt as Jock Landale remains sidelined, while Onyeka Okongwu is considered questionable with knee inflammation. Hart averaged 8.8 rebounds per game last playoff run and 11.5 per contest the season prior. Expect the 31-year-old to continue his relentless pursuit on the boards and comfortably pull in eight or more rebounds tonight.
Jalen Brunson to Record 7+ Assists (-147)
Jalen Brunson dropped 19 first-quarter points en route to 28 points and seven assists in Game 1. Atlanta seemingly entered with the game plan of allowing Brunson to get his, and do not help off others to lead to defensive breakdowns. This ultimately proved unsuccessful, and count on the Hawks to make it more of a priority to force others to beat them. Brunson does an excellent job of finding the balance of scoring and playmaking, posting averages of 26.0 points and 6.8 assists per game on the season. Atlanta has the caliber of high-level athletes and defenders to throw multiple bodies at Brunson and attempt to get back. Expect the three-time All-Star to be forced to operate as more of a playmaker and be completely capable of filling these shoes. He notched seven or more assists in 40 of his 74 games played this year, so back him to add to this in tonight’s game.
Jalen Johnson to Record 20+ Points (-163)
The motivation to move on from the Trae Young era in Atlanta has largely been driven by the emergence of Jalen Johnson. Across his 72 games played, the Duke product earned his first All-Star appearance by posting averages of 22.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7.9 assists. Johnson provides a unique combination of size and skill, and Atlanta will make it more of a priority to get out in transition and generate easy looks tonight. In the opening matchup, the 24-year-old finished with 23 points on 8-for-19 shooting and 3-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc. The Knicks’ defense has improved as the season has progressed, but they have largely struggled against physical drivers who attempt to get to the basket at a high rate. Atlanta needs more out of Johnson, and he still cruised to 23 points in what was largely a pedestrian performance. Johnson has tallied 20+ points in 46 of his 72 games played this season, so back him to clear this comfortable bar tonight.
CJ McCollum to Record 3+ Made Three-Pointers (-134)
On a largely young roster, CJ McCollum rose to the challenge and put his experience on display. He attempted a team-high 11-for-20 shooting performance and knocked down four of his nine three-point shots en route to a 26-point outing. McCollum’s ability to space the floor is necessary on a roster loaded with athletes who are at their best when attacking downhill, and he is not shy to let it fly. The 34-year-old averaged 2.3 made three-pointers per game across his 41 games with the Hawks, despite shooting just 35.7% from beyond the three-point arc. McCollum is a career 39.5% three-point shooter and facing a Knicks team that ranks 22nd in opponent three-point attempts and 20th in opponent three-point percentage. Expect the Hawks to lean on the veteran once again and knock down at least three three-pointers for the second consecutive postseason game.
