Kansas City Royals vs. Baltimore Orioles prediction, pick for MLB on Monday 4/20/26

Kansas City has been stuck in a slide, seven straight losses and a lineup that has not found a steady rhythm, while Baltimore has been uneven rather than explosive, dropping three of four in Cleveland. The total sitting at 9 suggests room for runs, but the texture of this game leans the other way—two right-handed starters facing offenses that have not consistently solved that handedness. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Kansas City Royals and the Baltimore Orioles.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Royals vs. Orioles prediction, preview

Seth Lugo has been the steadiest piece on the board: 1.48 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 24.1 innings, 21 strikeouts, six walks, and no home runs allowed. The contact profile supports it—90.6 mph average exit velocity, 38.5% hard-hit rate, 7.7% barrel rate, .309 xwOBA. Kyle Bradish’s 5.49 ERA and 1.63 WHIP look volatile, but the underlying contact is much cleaner: 88.2 mph average exit velocity, 7.0% barrel rate, .282 xwOBA. He has allowed traffic, but not sustained loud damage. One arm is controlling innings cleanly, the other has been better than his ERA.

The team math still points toward suppression. Baltimore is at .228/.310/.374 with a .684 OPS against right-handed pitching, while Kansas City sits at .222/.300/.356 with a .656 OPS. Over the last 10 games against righties, Kansas City has fallen to .194/.264/.329 with a .592 OPS, while Baltimore has been slightly better at .211/.293/.398 with a .692 OPS and 11 home runs in that span. Consistently building multi-inning scoring pressure has been something both squads have failed to do.

Baltimore leans on Gunnar Henderson, who has seven home runs and 15 RBI with a .450+ slugging profile, but the surrounding production has been uneven. The Orioles have just a handful of hitters above a .750 OPS against right-handed pitching, and their road production drops sharply, with the team batting .200 in that split away from home. Kansas City runs through Bobby Witt Jr., who is hitting .280 with a .360+ OBP, but the power has lagged behind the contact, and the lineup behind him has struggled to convert traffic—Salvador Perez and Vinnie Pasquantino have combined for paltry power without sustained run creation, and the club’s recent .194 average against righties shows how often innings are stalling. Even with 24 home runs on the season, the Royals are not stringing hits together, and Baltimore’s lineup is not doing it consistently either.

Orioles vs. Royals pick, best bet

A total of 9 leaves room for bullpen volatility, and Kansas City’s 6.52 bullpen ERA introduces real risk after the starters exit. Lugo’s contact profile is not dominant enough to erase Baltimore, and Bradish has allowed enough baserunners to create doubt about whether his underlying numbers will hold. But that path requires both offenses to capitalize, and the data does not support that happening consistently. Kansas City has been the weakest recent unit in the game against right-handed pitching, and Baltimore has not shown enough road stability to carry a total on its own.

That’s why the under is the right shape. You’re not relying on one offense to fail completely—you’re relying on both to remain inconsistent, which is exactly what the splits and recent form show. The way it loses is a bullpen swing that turns a 4-3 game into a 5-4 finish, but the cleaner read is two starters controlling damage long enough to keep this under the number.

Under 9 (-115, playable to -120). Final score: Royals 4, Orioles 3.

Best bet: Royals vs. Orioles u9.0 total runs (-115)
