The PGA TOUR is headed to the Big Easy this week for its annual team-up event at TPC Louisiana. The Zurich Classic is the only official tournament of the year in which players play in duos.
The field is made up of 80 two-man teams, who will play two rounds of four-ball (best ball) in the first and third rounds, and two rounds of foursomes (alternate shot) in the second and forth rounds. The event will also include a cut after Round 2, reducing the field to the top 33 teams (and ties).
The field doesn’t have many of the top players on the PGA TOUR, since it falls right after the Masters and RBC Heritage and just before two more Signature Events in the new Cadillac Championship and Truist Championship. After those two big events, the PGA Championship looms as the second major of the season.
This week will be important for the players teeing it up, though, since it still features a $9.5 million purse and rewards critical FedExCup Points for those players on the fringe of membership each season. Last year, Ben Griffin and Andrew Novak got the big win and went on to have a great rest of their respective seasons.
