Prediction, pick for Dennis Buzukja vs. Marcio Barbosa at UFC Winnipeg

Surging featherweight prospect Marcio Barbosa makes his Octagon debut Saturday night, taking on Dennis Buzukja at UFC Winnipeg.

Buzukja (12–5, 1–3 UFC) returns to the cage for the first time since suffering a split-decision loss to Francis Marshall in August 2024. Barbosa (17–2, 0–0 UFC) burst into MMA’s flagship promotion with a first-round knockout of Damon Wilson on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Barbosa enters as a heavy -500 moneyline favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, while Buzukja sits as a +380 underdog. The total is set at 1.5 rounds.

Buzukja vs. Barbosa Preview

Dennis Buzukja

Dennis Buzukja’s UFC career has been a roller coaster defined by brief highs and steep drops. The American featherweight went 1–3 inside the Octagon, with a knockout of Connor Matthews offset by a pair of decision losses and a first-round stoppage.

Then came a nine-month suspension following an altercation with a fan at UFC 310 in December 2024, and he hasn’t fought since.

Still just 28, “The Great” remains a battle-tested striker with five career knockouts. But after a slow start compounded by a lengthy layoff, building momentum at this point could require something close to alchemy.

Marcio Barbosa

Marcio Barbosa has essentially bulldozed his way to the UFC. The Brazilian powerhouse is 17–2 with a 94% finish rate, including 14 knockouts and two submissions — all of which came in the very first round.

At 27, “Ticoto” has only seen the judges’ scorecards once in his professional career; that was five years ago. He enters his Octagon debut riding a four-fight win streak, punctuated by a first-round demolition of Damon Wilson on DWCS last August.

Buzukja vs. Barbosa Pick, Best Bet

Barbosa is the heaviest betting favorite on Saturday’s fight card — and for good reason. The explosive Brazilian prospect has a clear path to steamrolling the embattled Buzukja, and he’s not in the business of taking his time. Expect the debuting knockout artist to put the featherweight division on notice with another quick finish.

Best Bet: Marcio Barbosa to Win and Under 1.5 Rounds (-165)
