George could have a strong scoring performance with Joel Embiid (appendix) sidelined, but the center’s absence doesn’t help George as a rebounder. The veteran is averaging 5.3 rebounds per game this season and that number drops to 4.7 with Embiid inactive (13 games). Why? Because Embiid being out means Andre Drummond will see more minutes and Drummond is a far more aggressive rebounder than Embiid.
This season, Drummond leads the 76ers with a 22.8% rebound rate while Embiid ranks sixth at 13.4%. Drummond is the self-proclaimed “best rebounder ever” and his main focus when on the floor is grabbing every rebound possible, leaving very few up for grabs for players like George.
With Embiid inactive for the final three games of the regular season, Drummond logged at least 22 minutes in every contest and George didn’t finish with more than five rebounds in any of these games, averaging just 8.0 rebound chances per game during this stretch. Drummond should see a similar workload tonight and George should fall short of 5.5 rebounds as a result.
