The MLB regular season is in full swing by now as we approach the one-month mark in the coming weeks. With the league’s pecking order taking shape slowly but surely, the series between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves will hold even more weight as these two foes sit atop the NL East standings. Last night, the Marlins took a 10-4 victory in one heck of a blowout. How will game two play out on Tuesday?
Here’s a betting prediction and pick for today’s Marlins vs. Braves matchup courtesy of MLB odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Marlins vs. Braves prediction, preview
Miami Marlins
Did anyone have the Marlins competing for the top spot in the division this early on? At 9-8, they may just be above .500 by a hair but have put forth a very productive campaign at the plate thus far and appear here to stay. Their 4.71 runs per game are good for 10th in baseball and a .736 OPS as a team ranks fifth overall. Slashing .259/.442/.404 as a team is pretty great, as are the elite start for Xavier Edwards and early signs of a breakout for Liam Hicks. The lineup is also 15th in ISO at .145, and while the 13 homers are on the lower end, the Marlins are eighth in doubles and first in triples while also keeping their strikeout rate down. The pitching staff has also been really solid, amassing a 3.87 ERA and 1.24 WHIP that both border on the top 10. The same goes for the staff’s K%, which falls 11th at 23.8%.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves have the lead in the NL East at 10-7, which is exactly why this series holds just a little extra weight. This offense is trending in the right direction with 5.53 runs per game, the fourth most of any team in the sport. That production is fueled by a .785 OPS that ranks third overall, coming via a .274/.343/.441 slash line. The stunning part is that Ronald Acuna Jr. is fairly far down the list of hitters with a .716 OPS thus far — Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin and Mauricio Dubon are all above the .900 mark with double-digit RBI. Atlanta also sits third in ISO at .168 and remains tied for second with 21 homers. An 0.48 BB/K ratio also borders on the top 10 and the Braves are fourth-best in K% at the dish. It’s not just the bats putting in work, though. The pitching staff ranks first in ERA at 2.87, second in WHIP at 1.07 and second in LOB% at 77.0%. They look great, which makes last night’s collapse a little more surprising.
Tonight’s starting pitchers
The Marlins start RHP Max Meyer, a former No. 3 pick who hasn’t truly hit his stride in the MLB. Through three starts this season, his 3.68 ERA and 1.36 WHIP are both the best marks of his four-year career. He’s also struck out 15 hitters in 14.2 IP. While most of his advanced numbers haven’t been great so far, his offspeed run value sits in the 95th percentile.
For the Braves, RHP Reynaldo Lopez takes the mound. He missed essentially all of 2025 but looks like his old self through three starts this season, delivering a 1.15 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 13 strikeouts in 15.2 IP. He’s dealing with his fastball (96th percentile in run value )and has largely kept exit velocity down well.
Marlins vs. Braves pick, best bet
DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Braves as -163 Moneyline favorites at home tonight. The Marlins come in at +135 odds to win outright. The run total also sits at 8.5 combined runs between these sides.
Best Bet: Max Meyer under 15.5 outs recorded (-129)
I considered targeting the under on 4.5 hits allowed for Lopez tonight, but against a Marlins lineup that’s hitting .259, I’d rather go with something else after all. Meyer has looked pretty solid this season in a limited sample, which has to feel good for the organization that selected him with the third-overall pick in 2020. However, the Braves are mashing at the plate and are a very difficult matchup as things stand. Their offensive prowess poses a real threat to Meyer, who could easily revert back to his old ways with a WHIP of 1.42 in each of the last two seasons. Miami hasn’t been particularly generous with his workload thus far either seeing as he’s been hooked at 5.0 IP or before in all three of his starts this year. Given what seems to be a short leash and the matchup, I’m confident he goes under 15.5 outs this evening.
