Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros prediction, pick for MLB on Monday 4/13/26

Matinee out west! Seattle enters at 7-9 but has taken the first three games of this series, including a 6-1 win Sunday, while Houston sits at 6-10 and just 1-8 on the road. The Astros are trying to stabilize a battered rotation and stop a slide; the Mariners, on the other hand, are leaning into home-field control with a starter who can shut it down from the first inning. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mariners vs. Astros prediction, preview

Houston has been excellent against right-handed pitching over its last 10 games, slashing .305/.393/.484 with an .877 OPS, 35 walks, and 40 RBI in 285 plate appearances. Seattle, in that same window against righties, sits at .213/.333/.308, a .642 OPS, with just four homers and 74 strikeouts. Over the full season, the Astros carry a .281/.381/.454 line against right-handed pitching with an .835 OPS, while Seattle is at .209/.328/.362, a .690 OPS, with a 26.2% strikeout rate. Houston’s offense is built on contact and sequencing, while Seattle’s has leaned on walks and isolated power-spot damage.

The pitching gap is still the anchor, here. Mike Burrows (RHP) comes in with a 5.63 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, 22 hits allowed in 16.0 innings, and a 6:15 BB:K ratio that reflects both traffic and inefficiency. George Kirby (RHP) counters with a 3.60 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, just 13 hits allowed in 20.0 innings, and five walks total across three starts. In his last outing, Kirby worked 8.0 innings on 90 pitches, a reminder of how efficiently he moves through lineups. Burrows, by contrast, allowed nine hits and five earned runs in 5.2 innings in his last start, and Houston’s rotation situation suggests he may be pushed for length even if the command wobbles early.

Houston’s scoring still runs through Yordan Alvarez, who has six homers, a .340 average, and is 7-for-32 with three homers against right-handed pitching this year. Jose Altuve just produced a three-hit game Sunday, and the Astros’ recent split success is built on hitters like Jeremy Peña, and Isaac Paredes putting balls in play and extending innings. Seattle’s lineup is less consistent but more explosive in pockets. The Mariners have scored 19 runs in this series, Randy Arozarena, and Luke Raley both had three-hit games Sunday, and Raley added two doubles and two RBI. Against righties, Cal Raleigh is just 7-for-42, but those hits include two homers and nine RBI, while J.P. Crawford is 5-for-19 with a .462 OBP. Seattle is often, this season, able to generate its traffic engine ahead of the middle of the order.

Astros vs. Mariners pick, best bet

A team hitting .305 with a .393 OBP against right-handed pitching isn’t one you blindly fade, especially against a contact-oriented arm like Kirby who relies on early-count strikes rather than overwhelming strikeout rates. If Alvarez leaves the yard and Houston strings together one of its typical contact innings behind him, this game can flip quickly, and Seattle’s own recent .308 slugging percentage against righties shows how thin its margin for error can be offensively. That’s why Mariners first five -0.5 and Seattle early team totals are too fragile here—they require immediate conversion from a lineup that hasn’t consistently provided it.

The cleaner path is to isolate what is most repeatable. Kirby’s profile—0.90 WHIP, five walks in 20.0 innings, and elite pitch efficiency—combined with the run-suppressing environment makes Houston’s scoring ceiling harder to reach than Seattle’s is to trust. The Astros can hit righties, but their scoring still depends on sequencing rather than free baserunners, and that is exactly what Kirby removes. It dies if Alvarez connects and Houston builds one clean multi-hit inning behind it, but the stronger edge is still on run suppression rather than run creation.

Best bet: Astros team total under 3.5. Projected score: Mariners 4, Astros 2.

Best bet: Astros TT u3.5 runs (-140) at Mariners
