Best NRFI Bets Today: No Run First Inning MLB Picks For Sunday 4/12/26

Who can suppress all the greatest forces of competitive volatility for six outs? The juicy NRFI—a wager on sequencing, on command showing up immediately, on hitters needing just one more pitch to calibrate. Even this early in the season, the modern game is louder than ever—exit velocity, launch angle, damage on contact. But the first inning still lives in a narrower band, where timing lags just enough behind power to create silence.

With that in mind, here are my top three NRFI picks for Sunday’s full slate of MLB action.

Royals vs. White Sox NRFI (-140)

Kansas City is scoring just 0.07 first-inning runs per game, 28th in the MLB, while the White Sox are at 0.53, still only middle-to-lower tier. Kansas City owns a 93.33% team NRFI rate, while Chicago is at 66.67%; on the prevention side, both clubs are also respectable, each carrying a 73.33% opponent-NRFI rate. In raw first-inning damage allowed, the Royals are giving up 0.60 first-inning runs per game and the White Sox 0.67, so neither side has been a first-frame disaster.

The pitching matchup only helps. Grant Taylor has a 1.42 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, eight strikeouts, two walks and zero home runs allowed in 6.1 innings; Noah Cameron has a 1.69 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 10 strikeouts, two walks and zero home runs allowed in 10.2 innings. Chicago’s broader offensive line is brutal: .192 average, .273 OBP, .295 SLG, with the White Sox ranking 30th in average, OBP and SLG. They’ve scored just eight runs over their last six games, with 11 of 15 games ending at three runs or fewer.

The first two games of this series have both ended 2-0, and the White Sox had zero first-inning hits on Friday and just one first-inning hit on Saturday. Even with a full-game total of nine, this is still the strongest NRFI case because the first six hitters in this matchup have not behaved like a nine-total first-inning environment.

Cardinals vs. Red Sox NRFI (-130)

This is the slate’s best quiet-offense profile after Kansas City. Boston is scoring only 0.14 first-inning runs per game, 26th in MLB, and St. Louis is at 0.36, 22nd. Both teams also show a zeroed-out recent early profile: Boston is at zero first-inning runs over its last three games and St. Louis is, gloriously, also at zero over its last three. Their team NRFI rates are solid: Boston 85.71%, St. Louis 78.57%. Their opponent-NRFI rates are identical at 71.43%, and the run-prevention math is workable too: Boston is allowing 0.43 first-inning runs per game, St. Louis 0.50.

The key question is whether Brayan Bello blows this up early, because his surface line is ugly: 9.00 ERA, 2.50 WHIP, 13 hits and seven walks in 8.0 innings. That is why this is second and not first. But the other half of the game leans quiet: Andre Pallante has a 1.80 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, six hits allowed, five strikeouts, seven walks and zero home runs allowed in 10.0 innings. Boston’s offense has been inconsistent overall, and even Saturday’s 7-1 win came after Friday’s 3-2 game, so the series’ runs only clock in once the game’s settled long after the first frame.

Padres vs. Rockies NRFI (-135)

The Padres have been one of the best NRFI teams in baseball. They are scoring just 0.07 first-inning runs per game, tied for the lowest mark in MLB, and they own a 93.33% team NRFI rate. The Padres are also batting just .137 in the first inning. Colorado’s offense is not a great first-inning machine either: the Rockies are at 0.60 first-inning runs per game with a 73.33% team NRFI rate, while San Diego’s opponent-NRFI mark sits at 80.00%.

On the pitching side, Kyle Freeland has been sharp early: 2.30 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 13 strikeouts, four walks and one home run allowed in 15.2 innings. Nick Pivetta looks worse on ERA at 5.54, but the strikeout shape is exactly what you want for a one-inning sweat: 20 strikeouts in 13.0 innings, only six walks, and zero home runs allowed. The game total is only 7.5, and Petco’s gametime weather sits around 66 degrees, a friendlier NRFI environment than Wrigley or Atlanta.

The warning light is obvious: Colorado hung a 4-0 first-inning lead on San Diego Saturday. But, some days, it just rains. You feel?
