SP Sandy Alcantara, Miami Marlins at Detroit Tigers ($9,500)
Sunday’s game between the Tigers and Marlins features a heavyweight pitching duel between Tarik Skubal and Sandy Alcantara. Let’s roll with the game’s “underdog” — a former NL Cy Young winner who appears to have recaptured his peak form.
After a lost 2024 and a disappointing 2025, the 30-year-old Alcantara is showing that he still has plenty left in the tank. The 6-foot-5 ace boasts a 0.74 ERA with a 0.58 WHIP and 18 strikeouts across his first three starts. He has reached the seventh inning in each outing, highlighted by a complete-game shutout against the White Sox on April Fool’s Day.
Alcantara’s under-the-hood metrics are just as impressive, ranking above MLB’s 80th percentile in hard-hit rate (83rd), chase rate (86th), xBA (93rd) and xERA (98th), while pacing the majors in pitching run value.
Expect the Dominican phenom to twirl another gem in the heightened pitching showdown, facing a middling Detroit lineup that’s strapped for power. Through their first 15 games, the Tigers sit 28th leaguewide in home runs and ISO.
1B Ben Rice, New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays ($5,300)
In a lineup featuring Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton, New York’s best hitter to start 2026 has been Ben Rice. The lefty slugger is hitting .341 with a 1.256 OPS, four home runs, and 12 RBIs through his first 12 games. His jaw-dropping 257 wRC+ leads MLB.
Rice, 27, has continued his surge against the Rays: he delivered a pinch-hit homer Friday night before going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in Saturday’s win.
While seemingly out of the blue, Rice’s breakout is by no means a surprise. Last season, he boasted arguably the most dazzling underlying metrics in the majors — underscoring a patient approach, thunderous contact, and a whole lot of bad luck. Oh, and he still managed to crush 26 homers.
Now that he’s taken over as the Yankees’ full-time first baseman, Rice looks poised to unleash on the league’s opposing pitchers. That includes Tampa Bay right-hander Drew Rasmussen. Even with his misfortune, Rice still owns a career OPS north of .850 against righties.
OF Jorge Soler, Los Angeles Angels at Cincinnati Reds ($3,600)
Not even a suspension can slow down Jorge Soler. The former World Series MVP with the Braves has remained in the Angels lineup while appealing the seven-game sabbatical, continuing to build on an impressive .859 OPS in 2026.
Before Saturday’s loss to the Reds, the righty slugger had homered three straight games, running his season total to four. He punctuated the surge Friday night with a grand slam at the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.
Expect the veteran outfielder — averaging just under 10 FPTS per game — to stay hot in Sunday’s rubber match. He’ll face lefty Andrew Abbott, whose 4.04 xERA and modest 19.2% whiff rate raise some red flags. His 93 mph fastball could be trouble against Soler, who owns a career .857 OPS versus southpaws.
