After a 17-month hiatus, Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Fighting Championship is making its return. This event is headlined by former UFC title challenger Anthony Smith vs. Chase Sherman and is taking place at Ovalo Feria Ganadera in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This card is the beginning of 16-man tournaments in the Heavyweight and Lightweight divisions. All 11 fights on this card are three five-minute rounds. Although Masvidal has hosted boxing events in the past, tonight’s card will be under the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA banner.
Smith is a longtime MMA veteran with a 37-22 record and recently retired from the UFC. This is Smith’s first fight since he suffered a loss to Mingyang Zhang in August 2025. Smith ended his MMA career on a three-fight losing streak, with his last win coming against Vitor Petrino in May 2024. His opponent, Sherman, is also a former UFC fighter who went 4-11 in the promotion from 2016 to 2023. Since leaving the UFC, Sherman has gone 3-3 and has competed in Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA, Karate Combat, Dirty Boxing, and Off the Hook Boxing.
Another former UFC title challenger, Thiago Santos, is competing on this card. Santos is facing Guto Inocente, who is 1-0 in Gamrbed Bareknuckle MMA. Since departing the UFC in 2022, Santos went 0-2 in the PFL with one no contest. This is Santos’ first non-MMA fight of his combat sports career.
