What happened to Cristian Javier? Injury updates for Astros vs. Rockies 4/8/26

Things just keep getting worse and worse for the Astros’ rotation. Just a day after finding out that ace Hunter Brown will miss at least two months due to an injury of his own, Cristian Javier has been removed from Wednesday’s game against the Rockies prior to the second inning with right shoulder tightness.

It’s unclear when Javier was hurt, but it was a stressful first frame for the RHP at Coors Field. In fact, the first three hitters of the game for Colorado singled, with Edouard Julien scoring the contest’s first run.

Javier has only started 18 games — including today — since the beginning of 2024. Health has not been his strong suit. In his opening two outings of 2026, Javier has surrendered six earned runs in each appearance. For the season, he’s rocking a ghastly 12.54 ERA.
