Today’s slate features a full day of games across the league, highlighted by Edward Cabrera building on his strong Cubs debut, Roki Sasaki looking to carry over solid form into Washington, and Max Fried continuing his dominant start to the season.

Top Pitching Matchups for April 5, 2026

  • Edward Cabrera looks to build off an impressive Cubs debut in today’s matchup against the Guardians.
  • Roki Sasaki looked healthy and his velocity was where it should be as he heads into a matchup against the Nationals
  • Max Fried enters today having not allowed a run through 13.1 innings.

Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Guardians Probable Pitchers

  • Chicago Cubs: Edward Cabrera
  • Cleveland Guardians: Slade Cecconi
  • Time: 1:10 PM ET

Cabrera was impressive in his Cubs debut, shutting out the Angels through six innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five. Cecconi, on the other hand, got rocked by the Mariners, allowing six runs on six hits in 4.1 innings.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Probable Pitchers

  • Baltimore Orioles: Chris Bassitt
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: Braxton Ashcraft
  • Time: 1:35 PM ET

Bassitt had a rough 2026 debut and was uncharacteristically wild with his command, walking four Rangers in 4.1 innings. He’ll take on Ashcraft, who’ll be making just his 10th major league start after spending eight years in the minors.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington Nationals Probable Pitchers

  • Los Angeles Dodgers: Roki Sasaki
  • Washington Nationals: Foster Griffin
  • Time: 1:35 PM ET

Sasaki looked healthy and his fastball was sitting around 97 in his 2026 debut He took a loss despite allowing just one run on four hits in four innings against the Guardians. He’ll look to outpitch Griffin, who was stellar in the NPB last season with a 1.62 ERA, a 1.78 FIP and an 8.8 K/9 through 78 innings.

Miami Marlins vs. New York Yankees Probable Pitchers

  • Miami Marlins: Chris Paddack
  • New York Yankees: Max Fried
  • Time: 1:35 PM ET

Paddack got wrecked by the White Sox last week, tagged for eight runs on eight hits through four innings. Fried will already be making his third start of the season and has yet to allow a run through 13.1 innings.

San Diego Padres vs. Boston Red Sox Probable Pitchers

  • San Diego Padres: Walker Buehler
  • Boston Red Sox: Ranger Suarez
  • Time: 1:35 PM ET

Buehler faces that team that released him last year after a horrific tenure in Boston. At least from what he saw in his first start, there hasn’t been much improvement with the Padres. He’ll be opposed by Suarez, who struggled through 4.1 innings against the the Astros.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Kansas City Royals Probable Pitchers

  • Milwaukee Brewers: Kyle Harrison
  • Kansas City Royals: Kris Bubic
  • Time: 2:10 PM ET

Harrison also has high strikeout upside, but his eight through five innings of work against the Rays was an impressive start to 2026. He’ll oppose Bubic, who got very lucky in his last start against the Twins, as his 1.50 ERA isn’t close to his xERA of 4.65 in that game.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Minnesota Twins Probable Pitchers

  • Tampa Bay Rays: Nick Martinez
  • Minnesota Twins: Simeon Woods Richardson
  • Time: 2:10 PM ET

From what we saw in his first start, Martinez was relying more on his changeup. That could work really well against the Twins, who’s lineup had a combined .256 wOBA and a .112 ISO against that pitch. He’ll be opposed by Woods Richardson, who hopes to replicate his solid five innings against the Royals last week.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox Probable Pitchers

  • Toronto Blue Jays: Eric Lauer
  • Chicago White Sox: Davis Martin
  • Time: 2:10 PM ET

Lauer struck out nine Athletics through just 5.1 innings. While he has good strikeout upside, that start feels like more of an outlier. He’ll face Martin, who was roughed up by the Marlins for three runs in just five innings.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Texas Rangers Probable Pitchers

  • Cincinnati Reds: Chase Burns
  • Texas Rangers: Jack Leiter
  • Time: 2:35 PM ET

After being derailed by injury last season, Burns kicked off 2026 with a seven strikeout performance through five innings against the Pirates. He’ll face a fellow first round pick in Leiter, who struck out eight in six innings against Baltimore last week.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Colorado Rockies Probable Pitchers

  • Philadelphia Phillies: Taijuan Walker
  • Colorado Rockies: Tomoyuki Sugano
  • Time: 3:10 PM ET

On paper, Walker had a easy start against the Nationals to kick off 2026. However, they tagged him for seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and two strikeouts through 4.2 innings. He’ll oppose Sugano, who shockingly held Toronto’s bats to just one run on two hits in 4.1 innings.

New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants Probable Pitchers

  • New York Mets: Kodai Senga
  • San Francisco Giants: Logan Webb
  • Time: 4:05 PM ET

Senga was sharp against the Cardinals, whiffing nine and giving up just two runs in six innings. He’ll oppose Webb, who is struggling to recapture his 2025 form. He’s allowed 10 run (nine earned) on 12 hits through 11 innings thus far.

Houston Astros vs. Athletics Probable Pitchers

  • Houston Astros: Lance McCullers Jr
  • Athletics: Jacob Lopez
  • Time: 4:05PM ET

McCullers looked like his old self against the Red Sox, allowing just one run on four hits and a 13.5% swing-and-miss rate in seven innings. He’ll face Lopez, who walked five in four innings against the Braves.

Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels Probable Pitchers

  • Seattle Mariners: Luis Castillo
  • Los Angeles Angels: Ryan Johnson
  • Time: 4:07PM ET

It was a vintage Castillo performance against the Yankees, shutting them out through six innings with seven strikeouts. He’ll face Johnson, who’ll be making just his second major league start. Johnson would love to forget about the first one against the Cubs, who tagged him for six runs on seven hits in just 3.1 innings.

Atlanta Braves vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Probable Pitchers

  • Atlanta Braves: TBD
  • Arizona Diamondbacks: Brandon Pfaadt
  • Time: 4:10PM ET

Pfaadt has good stuff but it’s not translating at the major league level. He wasn’t able to fool the Tigers, who blasted him for five runs on six hits in six innings.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Detroit Tigers Probable Pitchers

  • St. Louis Cardinals: Kyle Leahy
  • Detroit Tigers: Keider Montero
  • Time: 7:20PM ET

Atlanta Braves vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Probable Pitchers

  • Atlanta Braves: TBD
  • Arizona Diamondbacks: Brandon Pfaadt
  • Time: 4:10PM ET

Leahy’s transition into the Cardinals rotation was a rough one, as the Mets crushed him for four runs on eight hits through five innings. He’ll face Montero, who’ll make his first MLB start of 2026 for the Tigers. Montero made a start in AAA, tossing four shutout innings.
