Invincible has had a serious body count since its very first episode more than five years ago. The show made its mark with surprising character deaths, just as the cult-classic comic books did, and it has hardly let up on that front.

Who died in Invincible Season 4 Episode 5?
Mark agreed to join Omni-Man and Allen the Alien in their fight against the Viltrum Empire. Oliver tagged along, too, heading to space against Nolan’s wishes. They hopped on the The Venture, a Star Trek parody spaceship that Allen’s girlfriend, Telia, took command of back in Episode 2. In the middle of their two-week journey, however, most of the ship exploded and Telia had to flee with the crew. Mark, Nolan, Oliver, Allen and Tech Jacket stayed back to fight the Viltrumites who ambushed them with a warship.
Conquest led the trio of Viltrumites, which also featured Lucan and Kradd. We saw Conquest break free from Cecil’s prison on Earth in the Season 4 premiere, then we saw him report back to Grand Regent Thragg at the end of Episode 2. Now sporting a mechanical arm, Conquest was back to full strength after getting defeated by Mark and Eve in the Season 3 finale.
During the space battle, Oliver had to flee to a nearby planet to catch his breath. Conquest followed him there, but Mark went after Conquest to protect Oliver. Mark bit off Conquest’s finger and seemed to have the upper hand against the villain. While trying to suffocate him, though, Conquest used the Viltrumite Slice to incapacitate Mark. Still, Mark hung on just long enough knock out Conquest, whose blood-shot eyes rolled back as he went limp.
In the moment, it isn’t immediately apparent whether or not Conquest survived. However, the whole scene played out exactly like Conquest’s death in the comics, which took place in issue No. 72. So barring a major deviation from the source material, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Conquest is dead.
Is Invincible alive?
While Mark is clearly not in a good spot, this is not where the show’s titular character meets his end. It isn’t much of a spoiler to say that Nolan and Oliver are able to keep him alive in the comics following his battle with Conquest.
The Viltrumite War arc will continue, and Mark will have a key role to play in it after he recovers.
What to expect in Invincible Season 4 moving forward
While Nolan and Oliver will have to dispose of Conquest’s body and get Mark back in shape, Allen and the gender-swapped Tech Jacket – Zoe – are stowed away on the Viltrumite warship. Telia is headed back to Thaedus and the Coalition of Planets. Thaedus told Telia that the war with the Viltrimutes has officially begun, although they still have a double-agent in their ranks.
So in the episodes ahead, we will presumably find out who has been betraying the Coalition’s efforts to snuff out the Viltrum Empire. The fight between Mark, Nolan and Oliver against the rest of their alien race will also continue to heat up, to say nothing of what will happen back on Earth with Eve’s pregnancy.
