Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is taking on MMA pioneer Gina Carano in a five-round Featherweight contest on Saturday, May 16, at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California. This fight is the Main Event of the first MMA card airing on Netflix. This event is being promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, which is run by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian.
Both fighters are coming off a long layoff, as this is Rousey’s first fight since 2016 and Carano’s first since 2009. Carano lost her last fight to Cris Cyborg, while Rousey suffered a defeat against Amanda Nunes.
Rousey competed in Strikeforce from 2011 to 2012 and the UFC from 2013 to 2016. When the UFC purchased Strikeforce, Rousey became the inaugural UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Rousey successfully defended her title six times in the UFC before ending her run in the company on a two-fight losing streak. Carano is 7-1 with four finishes in her career and retired after only three years in the sport. After leaving the sport, Carano became an actor.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Rousey is currently a -550 favorite with Carano being a +410 underdog in this contest.
