Interleague clubs kick off a three-game set in South Beach Monday night, as the Miami Marlins host the Chicago White Sox at loanDepot Park.
The White Sox are still searching for their first win of the season after getting swept by the Brewers in Milwaukee. Meanwhile, the Marlins shrugged off the Rockies at home to cinch their first 3–0 start since the late 2000s.

White Sox vs. Marlins Preview
Chicago White Sox
The woeful White Sox were cast into the deep end over the weekend, opening their season against the reigning regular-season champion Brewers in Milwaukee. It went about as you’d expect: a three-game annihilation in favor of the Brew Crew.
Chicago was outscored 27–10 — its pedestrian pitching staff pounded and its novice lineup left in the dust. However, one glaring silver lining arose: Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami has arrived. The lefty corner-infielder wasted no time proving he can hang in the majors, mashing three home runs across his first three games.
Still a young season, the White Sox will look to flip the page Monday with Davis Martin on the bump. The 29-year-old righty struggled to make strides in 2025, posting a 4.10 ERA (5.13 xERA) and 1.29 WHIP across 26 outings with low strikeout totals and a great deal of hard contact. But length is going to be paramount from Chicago, as its battered bullpen surrendered an MLB-high 19 earned runs and 15 walks — along with three home runs — across 13.2 innings in the opening series.
Miami Marlins
Opening weekend couldn’t have gone better for the Marlins. Down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth with the winning run at the plate, outfielder Owen Caissie parked a hanging changeup in the visitor’s bullpen for a 4–3 win over the Rockies. The walkoff slam polished off a three-game sweep — and punctuated Miami’s first 3–0 start since 2009.
One of the youngest lineups in baseball is loaded with promising talent, including Caissie (23), third baseman Connor Norby (25), and center fielder Jakob Marsee (24). That’s not even mentioning budding superstar Kyle Stowers, who’s currently situated on the 10-day IL with a hamstring injury. The vision began taking shape down the stretch in 2025, when the Marlins won 13 of their last 17 games — capped by a playoff-hope-squashing shutout of the Mets.
That upward momentum has propelled the Fish into 2026, and they’ll look to keep it rolling Monday when they hand the ball to right-hander Chris Paddack. Drafted by Miami in 2015, the veteran will finally make his Marlins debut after returning to the club this offseason as a free agent. Paddack, 30, is coming off a mediocre season with the Twins, during which he posted a 5.35 ERA (5.03 xERA) and 1.28 WHIP across 33 outings. His arsenal is fairly underwhelming, though it’s bolstered by a high extension and a minimal walk rate.
Miami’s bullpen was brilliant in the opening series, allowing zero runs on five hits across eight innings. It was against the Rockies, so take that as you will.
White Sox vs. Marlins Pick, Best Bet
The Marlins, headlined by a blossoming young core, opened their season by smashing one of MLB’s perennial punching bags. They’ll now carry that momentum into another favorable matchup with the lowly White Sox. While Munetaka Murakami has already asserted himself as a formidable power threat, the rest of Chicago’s lineup leaves plenty to be desired. Expect Miami to keep the good times rolling at loanDepot and cover the run line Monday night.
