Tonight, the UFC is back in Seattle, Washington, at the Climate Pledge Arena for a Fight Night event. This card is headlined by former Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya vs. rising star Joe Pyfer.
“The Last Style Bender” isn’t just a great striker. He is excellent. Adesanya is one of the greatest strikers to ever step into a UFC Octagon. This is a pivotal moment for “The Last Style Bender”. Because if he loses his fourth straight fight, his days are officially numbered at the top.
Yes, he has lost three straight fights and hasn’t won a fight in nearly three years, but he is still capable of greatness, as he showed in his last two fights. There are levels to this game, and although Pyfer is an elite prospect, he is not yet on Adesanya’s level. At 36, Adesanya needs a victory more than ever. With a win over Pyfer, Adesanya is firmly back in the mix at the top of the Middleweight division.
Pyfer wants to work his way up the Middleweight rankings, and this fight provides a career-changing opportunity for “Bodybagz”. Although it will be tough, a victory over Adesanya would immediately make Pyfer a legit title contender. Philadelphia’s own, Pyfer, has started his UFC career at 6-1, with five finishes, and has displayed his versatility as a fighter.
Normally, Pyfer has a size advantage over opponents. But that isn’t the case this time. Pyfer excels when dictating the pace of his bouts and controlling his opponents. Adesanya holds a five-inch reach advantage (80″ vs. 75″) and is two inches taller (6’4″ vs. 6’2″).
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Adesanya is a -142 favorite with Pyfer being a +120 underdog. In this fight, Adesanya is getting 66 percent of the bets and 65 percent of the handle. 35 percent of the handle and 34 percent of the bets are being placed on Pyfer.
Another former title holder, Alexa Grasso, is on this card, and she is facing Maycee Barber in the co-main event. Grasso has suffered two straight losses, while Barber is riding a seven-fight winning streak. Barber is -192, while Grasso is +160 in this contest. In this fight, Barber is getting 65 percent of the bets, with 35 percent on Grasso. On the betting handle, Barber is receiving 57 percent, and Grasso has 43 percent.
