The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues on Thursday as the play-offs for a spot in this summer’s tournament commence. The winner of Wales vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina will take on the winner of Italy vs. Northern Ireland for a place in the World Cup.
It’s essentially a four-team bracket for one spot in the tournament. The eventual winner of the four-team bracket will join Group B in the World Cup alongside Canada, Qatar and Switzerland.

Harry Wilson is the in-form player for both club and country, and therefore, he’s my pick to score first in this match. Wilson scored five goals in five appearances during the qualifying campaign, leading Wales despite missing three matches. Wilson has 11 goals in all competitions for Fulham this season, netting 10 times in the Premier League and once in the FA Cup. You could argue he is having the season of his life, as his 10 league goals have already equaled his career best with seven games to go.
Wilson primarily plays on the right wing, but can also slot inside into the middle of midfield. He has been at his best this season for Fulham on the wing, and that’s where I expect him to line up on Thursday. He will be heavily involved in the attack and try to cut in on his left foot to find the net.
Wilson is coming off a hat-trick in his last game for Wales, where he was also the first goalscorer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he carried over his recent good form to this game and got on the scoresheet first for the Welsh.
