Miami is still a tough team to get comfortable betting against because the Heat rarely beat themselves. They’re sixth in DEFRTG at 112.3 and fourth in AST/TO at 2.1, which fits the way this roster plays. They like organized half-court possessions, smart spacing, and a lot of offensive responsibility flowing through Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. Adebayo’s having a strong season individually, but he can also can screen, facilitate, score in the short roll, and anchor the defense. Herro gives Miami the shotmaking threat it needs, while Davion Mitchell and the wing group help the Heat stay compact defensively and make you work deep into the clock. This is another overachieving Spoelstra team that’s going to be annoying in the playoffs. The Heat, unfortunately, have lost five straight games now and will look to get back on track tonight. They’ve recently lost the ninth seed to the Charlotte Hornets, and it’ll be a bitter battle down to the last game to see which team will hang onto this spot.
Cleveland has more high end offensive firepower, and when the Cavaliers are humming, they can make this matchup feel one sided quickly. Unlike the Heat, they’ve won four straight entering tonight. The Cavs are sixth in OFFRTG at 118.0, eighth in NETRTG at 4.3, and among the league leaders in eFG%, which tracks with how this group functions when Donovan Mitchell gets downhill. Mitchell is still the headliner, but the fit works because Evan Mobley covers so much ground as a scorer, finisher, and defensive anchor. Cleveland’s guard and wing pieces can keep the offense flowing. The issue is the frontcourt health: Jarrett Allen was still listed as DTD, and Cleveland just played Tuesday night, so the interior matchup gets a lot more fragile if Allen sits again.
