We’re five episodes into the 2026 Scrubs revival and it feels like being reunited with an old friend. Scrubs Episode 6 airs Wednesday, March 25 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. It will stream the next day on Hulu.
Titled “My VIP,” Scrubs Episode 6 is described by ABC like this:
“J.D. and Dr. Park are forced to work together when a member of the hospital board experiences a mysterious health crisis. Turk helps Elliot navigate a newfound romance, while the interns practice vulnerability with patients.”
The series is a sequel to the original Scrubs series, specifically the first eight seasons with the ninth Med School season basically relegated to elseworlds status. Additionally, great pains have been taken to tell the audience that J.D.’s dream of the future as seen in the finale was just that, a dream of the future. It is not canon, and what J.D. saw on that sheet is merely what his imagination thought his future could be — Scrubs will not be beholden to that vision of the characters’ futures in this revival.
Last week’s episode, “My Angel,” saw various characters dealing with matters of the heart — whether it’s J.D. and Elliot facing the prospect of getting back out there romantically after their divorce or some of the younger interns dealing with unrequited love of their own. Here’s how Episode 5 unfolds.
Scrubs Episode 5 Recap

- It’s interesting to see how J.D. and Elliot start and finish in different places when it comes to jumping back into the dating pool. While J.D. is initially more interested and excited to start something new, Elliot feels like it’s too late to start over at this point in her life. J.D.’s nervous, in an excitable way, to get back out there for the first time since his divorce with Elliot. He’s a divorce virgin, as Turk puts it! Even if their trip to the club doesn’t pan out, things look up for J.D. when he stumbles upon a beautiful harp player, Lily, in the hospital’s lobby. After dodging workplace dating concerns (she’s not an employee!) as well as a runaway harp, the two hit it off and agree to get a drink. She’s a bit more forward than expected and they end up back at her place. However, seeing a pizza box on her bed gives J.D. a flashback to his first tryst with Elliot and he realizes he’s not ready to start something new after all (much to Turk’s disappointment). As J.D. says at the end of the episode, sometimes the heart just needs a little more time to heal.
- Meanwhile, Elliot’s patient Pauline is skeptical that she’s actually going to get a new liver after several setbacks in the past. Of course, despite all Asher and Elliot’s positivity there is a setback — the organ was ischemic and can’t be implanted. Elliot can’t bear to break bad news to her again and tries to get Turk to help her find a solution. He does but there’s a catch — he can offer a liver from a 60-year-old patient with a treated case of hepatitis C. It’ll still work, but it’s less than ideal. Or as Dashana puts it, like promising someone new shoes and giving them Asher’s mangy clogs. But it’s better than nothing and in explaining why Pauline should take the liver, Elliot realizes that all the same arguments could apply to her dating life and why she needs to get back out there. It’s not too late to have a great life — for Pauline or Elliot. Pauline takes the liver, and plans to adopt a dog, while Elliot has a meet cute with the pilot who brought the liver to Sacred Heart and goes off for coffee with him as J.D. looks on. It doesn’t feel like they’re setting us up for J.D. to decide to chase after Elliot again, but with Scrubs, you can never rule it out.
- Elsewhere in matters of the heart at Sacred Heart we have a bit of love triangle developing. Asher and Amara start the episode by continuing their awkward dance with each other, but she and Blake land in hot water for breaking one of the hospital’s unwritten rules — you don’t sit in the charge nurses seats. Their penance is going out to pick up pizza, but that goes awry when a thief tries to steal Amara’s purse, which brooding and mysterious Blake (like Batman, not Tom Selleck) predicts. Blake won’t press charges over $40 worth of lost pizza as he grew up guys like that and one stupid decision shouldn’t set your whole life back (perhaps an illusion to his own backstory). Blake gives the guy the contact of a guy who runs a program that turned his life around, and we get the first signs that Amara is developing some feelings for him … and so does a heartbroken Asher, who backs down from a plan to ask her out.
- Park continues to be deliciously petty about J.D. getting the chief of medicine job, but even that won’t keep him from wanting to bowl with Turk. Or keep Turk from telling Carla hello from him. He may not have been able to get J.D. on the harp player, but he’s still gunning for J.D. And he loves dramatic flair.
- Of course J.D. has named his chatbot Estelle, which I can only assume is for Estelle Getty of The Golden Girls. But at least his chatbot gets him and his love of Stanley Tucci. Unlike the IT guy, whose chatbot Katniss only nags him when they’re going to be late for their wine tasting.
- We continue to peel layers off Sibby like an onion. She’s not just an ever-present HR rep who gets VERY into card games, but at one point she had to fend off accusations of being a black widow. Never change, Sibby. Unless, of course, you are really black widow. Maybe change a little bit in that case. But she continues to be a fun addition to the ensemble at Sacred Heart.
We’re already entering the homestretch for the Scrubs revival, and although it has yet to be renewed for a second season it’s been an easy, breezy ride that has reunited us with beloved characters who are different yet simultaneously the same. And I look forward to seeing where the show heads next.
