After Toni Storm was attacked backstage on the latest edition of AEW Dynamite, rumors immediately began to swirl about her future. Now, a new report from Fightful Select has provided an update on Toni Storm’s injury status, and it does not paint a positive picture for her short- or long-term future in AEW. Toni Storm expected to miss the rest of 2026 with injury
As the report states, Storm’s injury, which has still not been disclosed, is bad enough to keep her out of AEW for the remainder of 2026 “at minimum.” The timing of this couldn’t be worse, as Storm was confronted at the end of her match at AEW Revolution by Ronda Rousey. After a brief scuffle in the ring, both were separated by security.
It planted the seed that Rousey could not only be involved in AEW but potentially wrestle for the company. Of course, Rousey is set to make her MMA return with MVP Promotion against Gina Carano in May, which adds another layer of uncertainty to where this storyline was headed.

After Revolution, it was advertised that Storm would once again face Marina Shafir, this time in a No Holds Barred match. However, minutes before Dynamite went on the air, AEW’s X account posted that Storm had been attacked backstage, effectively writing her off AEW TV due to injury.
Renee Paquette rushed to her locker room and was met by a hysterical Luther, who was pleading for someone to check on Storm. Once the door opened, Storm was laid out in the locker room with a pool of blood underneath her. Immediately, speculation pointed to Rousey or Shafir as the attacker, but Shafir has since denied it.
What happens next in Toni Storm’s absence from AEW
While we still need to see how this plays out, a “who is the attacker” storyline seems to be on the horizon. I’m personally really excited for this, as it’ll build a lot of intrigue and mystery around who the attacker is.
This angle actually feels similar to when “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was run down by a mystery driver. That reveal ended up being Rikishi, which, honestly, felt a bit flat—so AEW has a real opportunity here to stick the landing.
With Storm now expected to be out long-term, this could significantly shift the direction of AEW’s women’s division, especially if the Rousey angle is put on hold or rewritten entirely. Either way, plenty of intrigue will surround AEW Dynamite next Wednesday.
