Costello van Steenis delivered one of the most shocking moments of the year when he submitted Johnny Eblen in the final round in July 2025. This was Eblen’s first loss of his MMA career, as he previously was 16-0. In his career, van Steenis holds a 17-3 record with 13 finishes and has won three consecutive bouts by knockout or submission.
Although van Steenis was born in the Netherlands, he grew up in Altea, Spain, and proudly identifies as Spanish. Today’s event is taking place in Madrid, Spain, at the Palacio Vistalegre, which is about a four-and-a-half-hour drive from Van Steenis’ hometown.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, the Champion is a +105 underdog while Edwards is the favorite at -125. This is a bit surprising, as van Steenis is coming off a tremendous victory and already holds a win over Edwards. Edwards has gone 7-3 since they first met in 2020, but van Steenis’ elite ground finishing remains the difference. Three of van Steenis’s last four wins have come by submission. If van Steenis can neutralize Edwards ‘ power early in this contest, it will limit his path to victory in this five-round bout.
