Both sides canceled each other out for most of the game, and chances were few and far between. That’s been the case for Arsenal a lot this season, as their defensive brilliance allows them to win boring affairs on many occasions. I expect a similar type of game in the second leg, but the Gunners should find a way to win this one in front of their home fans.
Three or fewer goals have been scored in five of Arsenal’s nine Champions League games in this campaign, while this under has hit in eight of Leverkusen’s 11 games.
The first leg gives me a lot of confidence that it will be another low-scoring affair. If you look at the statistics for the game, there were only five total shots on goal between both teams. The expected goals were low as well, with both sides finishing under 1.85. Arsenal’s xG was slightly inflated due to the fact that they received a penalty.
Expect another low-scoring, cagey affair on Tuesday. Ultimately, the Gunners will advance to the quarterfinals and I think they will do so within the 90 minutes.
