BREAK IT DOWN:
(stats taken from DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub)
Victor Wembanyama First Point Scorer (+406): I’ve written about this is this space before, but the really appealing part about Wembanyama’s first scorer props is that his presence almost guarantees that the Spurs will at least have the first possession of the game. Whether or not that leads to points is somewhat more random, but that’s these bets in a nutshell. In San Antonio’s past seven contests, its won the opening tip six times. There’s that 7’4 frame coming in handy. However, Wemby’s exploits haven’t stopped there. In three of these seven games, the former first-overall pick has, in fact, scored the first basket. It might not seem like it, but for a betting market where the best players hit their prop about 20% of the time, that’s quite the run. Given the recent success, I’m not shocked this wager is popular on Thursday evening.
Josh Giddey Over 16.5 Rebounds + Assists (-126): He was injured for awhile, and the Bulls have zero relevance in the postseason picture, so I can understand why some people may have lost track of Josh Giddey. However, now back to a full workload, the man continues to be an absolute counting stat machine. In Tuesday’s OT win over the Warriors, the guard finished with 21 points, 17 assists and 13 rebounds in 43.2 minutes of action — his third triple-double in his past four games. The one failure in that stretch? A nine-assists, nine-rebound effort against the Thunder, who happen to own the NBA’s best defensive rating. In March, Giddey is averaging 12.0 rebounds and 11.5 dimes per start. He’s been amazing, and this prop clearly does not reflect his recent run of jaw-dropping stat lines. The public took notice.
Cooper Flagg 2+ Three-Pointers Made (+184): It feels like I’ve been writing this one up a lot lately. Let’s start with the good news. Flagg has been offensive option No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 for the Mavericks since he returned from a recent injury absence. In his four starts this month, the rookie has a massive 34.3% usage rate. He also, technically, shot 100% from three-point range in his last game — though that was on just a single three-point attempt. The fact of the matter is that Flagg has not been shooting well lately, registering a 39.4% true shooting rate in March. He also hasn’t shot well from three-point range all season long, clocking in at only 29.9% as a pro. These odds are obviously appealing for a player with Flagg’s name value and scoring acumen, yet he hasn’t cleared this prop since February 7.
3-Pick Parlay
Taking three of the most-bet player props individually is always an option, but why not roll them into a parlay and get in on all the action at once? It’s a fun way to tie everything together — feel free to tag along.
