King of the Course Pick for THE PLAYERS Championship
My pick for this season’s first DraftKings King of the Course is Ludvig Aberg. It has been a rollercoaster of a season so far for Aberg. He had to withdraw from his first tournament of the year due to an injury. He then tried to come back the following week at the Farmers Insurance Open and clearly wasn’t at his best. However, he has been slowly getting his game back, and everything clicked into place last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Aberg finished T3 in Orlando and looked like his old self.
That type of volatility is what to look for making a pick for King of the Course. Players who avoid mistakes and make a lot of pars won’t help. Ludvig Aberg ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in birdie or better percentage this season, despite not playing his best golf to start the year. Aberg ranks fourth in proximity this season, as well. That means he is sticking the ball close to the flagstick, giving him a chance to make birdies.
Aberg’s career history at THE PLAYERS is defined by more volatility. Last year, he missed the cut. However, the year prior, he finished in eighth place and played great. Aberg should be riding high after last week and will be feeling good about his game. He is one of the only players in the field that can score with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, but he won’t be nearly as popular a pick in King of the Course, which is also an important factor. I will back Aberg to keep his good play going and finish as the King of the Course at the fifth major.
