Well, you don’t see this every day. Just four days after the Raiders traded Maxx Crosby to the Ravens, the deal is off. Last Friday, the teams agreed to a deal that sent Crosby to Baltimore in exchange for a first-round pick in 2026 and a first-round pick in 2027, per ESPN. Fast-forward to Tuesday and the Raiders released a statement on social media stating that Baltimore had backed out of the deal.
It’s not every day that we see a blockbuster trade like this fall through, so the question becomes why. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the reason is a medical one. Russini reported shortly after the news of the deal falling through that Crosby failed his physical with the Ravens on Tuesday.
Crosby was placed on IR at the end of last season before the final two games of the regular season with a knee injury. Just a few weeks later, Crosby posted on social media that he underwent meniscus surgery on January 7th. Clearly, Crosby is still not 100%, and it’s likely due to that same issue with his meniscus. The question now becomes, will the rest of the NFL also get cold feet? We could end up seeing Crosby in the silver and black once again next season if this becomes an issue with other potential suitors.
