The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 has arrived as Tottenham will travel to Spain to take on Atlético Madrid on Tuesday.
Atlético Madrid disposed of Club Brugge in the playoff round to advance, while Tottenham automatically qualified for this stage of the tournament after finishing fourth in the League Phase.

This bet can be found under the “Match Parlays” tab. This is one of the tougher games to predict on Tuesday’s slate, largely due to Tottenham. Spurs have been dreadful in the Premier League, sitting just a single point outside of the relegation zone at the moment. Their Champions League campaign, however, has been the polar opposite. They finished fourth out of 36 teams in the League Phase table, booking their spot in the Round of 16. They won five of their eight games, drawing two and losing one.
On the flip side, there’s Atlético Madrid. They struggled in the first leg of their playoff round against Club Brugge, but were completely dominant in the second leg at home to get the 7-4 aggregate win and advance. They also recently knocked Barcelona out of the Spanish Super Cup and advanced to the final.
Atlético come into this game having won four of their last five games in all competitions, while Tottenham have lost five in a row. Even though Spurs have been the better team in Europe so far this season, there’s no way I can back them right now based on how they are playing domestically.
This first leg is also in Madrid, a stadium where the home team have won four of their five games so far in this season’s campaign. At least two goals have been scored in every game Atlético have played in this UCL campaign.
Spurs are a mess at the moment, and Atlético should capitalize with a big win to bring with them to London for the second leg.
