I’m excited and so happy about this Saturday at Santa Anita, where we’re again sponsoring a major prep race for 3-year-olds, trying to accumulate enough points to make it into the Kentucky Derby field. Speaking of being so happy, the colt So Happy, along with Brant and Potente, worked last Sunday in preparation for expected starts in this race. Brant and Potente are both trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert. The San Felipe would be Brant’s first start since finishing third in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Oct. 31, 2025, at Del Mar. Trainer Dan Blacker also features a pair of trainees in this prep.

Tampa Bay Derby
Another three-year-old prep takes place Saturday at the deep, demanding two-turn surface of Tampa Bay Downs, which has proven to be an excellent preparation race for Churchill Downs. Since its inaugural race in 1981, Trainer Todd Pletcher has been the most successful conditioner of Tampa Bay Derby champions, with five winners all-time.
