Wolves were extremely fortunate to win Tuesday’s game against Liverpool, but they got the three points across the line. The Reds finished with a higher xG, more shots, more shots on goal and more possession as they lost to Wolves in the Premier League. This time around, I think the Reds will get the job done.
Despite the unlucky loss on Tuesday, Liverpool have won four of the last five Premier League games between these teams. In four of those games, both teams got on the scoresheet. Wolves have scored in four of their last five games in all competitions, and each of their last four home games. On the other hand, Liverpool have scored in 12 straight games in all competitions and won eight of those.
For me, Wolves will be far too focused on a potential Premier League survival to care about this game. On the other hand, this is one of the few trophies Liverpool have a chance of winning. I expect the Reds to bounce back from a let-down performance on Tuesday with a win, while Wolves should get on the scoresheet for the fifth consecutive game in all competitions.
